My GF, not a boardise, is looking to get a bit fitter and loose a little weight and I'm hoping some one can point me in the direction or a resource or could themselves help me with a basic weights routine for overall toning.

This site is aimed at women and weight training

    http://http://www.stumptuous.com/

A decent diet is very important for weight loss though.

Thanks for that. The old diet wont be too much of an issue as the problems there are fairly obvious, skipping meals, low protein and just not very clean so I think I have that in hand just need a few pointers on a routine more suitable to a womans physique.

    Hi There

No expert, but IMHO women can & should use the same routines as men. They will not get big and bulky from doing say Starting Strength etc as they simply don't produce enough testosterone to get that size. Instead they become strong, fit and toned ala

For the best bang for her buck, make sure her routine is based around squats, deadlifts, bench & standing press, dips, chin-ups/pull-ups, press-ups etc. And she should up the weight week on week just like a guy would.

Throw in some HIIT and some metcon type workouts coupled with a good clean diet and she will get in great shape in no time.

    Best Regards,

    M

Just like Builder says a routine for women wouldn't be any different to a mans and you'll notice on that site that's the view they take. Don't go down the road of 1kg dumbells for 50 reps kinda stuff, she'll want to push herself as hard as she can.

I've gone through that site and it does seem quite good with more of a focus around the basic core exercises rather than using ankle weights or other crap.
The diet really will be no bother as I went from 33% BF to as low as 10%BF and would still maintain low to mid teens all year round with what I think is a good mix of cardio and weights but it's something I've been working at for years so I'm tuned into what works for me and really needed a new perspective fro what might work better for her.
