UK Conservative Party Website

Does anyone else find it condescending and inconsiderate of the UK Conservative Party to include a map of all of Ireland on the front page of their website, rather than just Northern Ireland? What are your thoughts on it?

I've emailed the webmaster about it asking them to remove the Republic from the image, and at the same time explaining that I have no problem with the North being included. I've received no reply. Am I taking it a bit too much to heart, or is this really something that should not be on their site?

Better still they haven't even "flagged in" the NornIron part with the map with the Union Jack. So they don't even count the place at all by the look of it.

They've cut out the Channel Islands , and all of Kent, they won't be happy about that.

Or maybe like us, they don't care

It says 'find your local conservative' and includes the full island of Ireland. We're very conservative here. Makes sense to me.

Good thing they don't do that with the weather forecase, or we'd be reliant on RTE's famous "Cloudy today, some sunny spells, with the possibility of showers" line.

Oh for God's sake, the above is just rediculous, the map shown is so small as to be tiny, & if you look very closely there is even a slight shadowy part of the Union jack tipping the 'North', for goodness sake its just a small graphic which is not meant to be factual, where's the isle of wight? where's Kent? > Really, have you nothing better to do with your time!

Cant believe you emailed the webmaster.

So do you watch RTE weather and block out Britain with your hands?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,949 ✭✭✭The Waltzing Consumer

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Who cares? It is a picture of Ireland and Britain, it would look stupid if they cut away the Republic and left six counties floating away like it was an island.

    Seriously, get a life!

In fairness, when 80% of the days are like that its a safe bet.

They should black Ireland out altogether and refer to us as 'the forbidden zone'

Look at the way it appears that Britain is sneaking up behind Ireland and Wales is just about to pinch our arse.

No, it would mean that they recognise us as a separate country. I know that they do recognise us, but it just seems a bit antagonistic. Three examples of websites belonging to other European political parties shows that it's not exactly normal for party websites to include other countries on the maps on their sites:

heh, I've always thought that Ireland looks like an innocent teddy bear and Britain is a big butch rapist whispering the words 'bend over' into its ear

Also, thanks for circling Ireland in your attached image OP .. I wouldn't have recognised it otherwise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭sponsoredwalk

Look, Look!!! The C.I.A. has Mexico & Canada in the picture of the map when the topic is explicitly the United States of America!!!

I bet it's some conspiracy to say they own the world, or at least a way to show they don't respect Mexico and Canada.
OP, you may be onto something here with your fine method of analysis of cartographer psychology...

No, the United States is clearly defined in blue. The rest of the land mass is grey.

It was a choice between a picture of a can of worms, or a map showing the UK and Ireland, and they decided on the map.

Edit. Except, they've also given a bit of Southern England to France, as it's not part of England apparently.

And the conservative picture of Britain & Ireland has this magic looking flag (I think) superimposed on Britain while Ireland is just plain blue, See :p

If we're going to waste time masking our hate behind the most superficial & trivial things then we might as well do it right

OP, your crayola red marker drawing over Northern Ireland has included some of the Republic,
you have sold out a few thousand of your fellow coutrymen due to not colouring inside the lines.

    I hope your proud...

    I think you're right.

It dosn't include the most southern parts of GB. Dosn't mean anything... Now if the nations were shaded in with a union jack I might be a little offended... Its a simple snapshot of a map that just happens to include ROI. Maybe they didnt want to go photo shop us out of it? lol

Edit : Just had another look, you can make out the UK Flag over the UK where Ireland is just blue....

A bit of the lines on that flag reaches across NornIron.

I've a feeling if they omitted the Republic on that map, there would have been outrage at the snub.

There's plenty to dislike the Conservatives about - whether for things related to this country or not - so there is little need to hallucinate stuff like this.
