With race week just around the corner i thought id start this thread.

Entries are up for the plate and the hurdle
    Plate
Majestic concorde is favourite for the plate at the moment who was 4th at cheltenham in may but only 1 length behind winner mamlook and other notable horses like powerstation and cuai na grai and of course paul gilligan 's ninetytwoteam
    Hurdle
Overturn is favourite in this race.

p.s. hulk hands will you give me a few tips like you did for cheltenham. In need of a few winners:D

Hi guys, new in here, glad to have this community. :)

Ted Walshs horse, Hail Cesar looked impressive the other evening. He is entered in the first race of the meeting. Also Weld has just 2 entries in the big amatuer handicap and he has won it for the last 3 years. Universal Truth and Sublime Talent.

I like backing some O'Brien horses in maidens at the meeting. With a lot of the once a year punters going with Weld's horses, some of the Ballydoyle ones go off around 3/1 or so when they would be even money or odds on at other venues during the year.

Yeah, you are right about Weld and they way he is overbet at Galway. But be careful, sometimes the evens available at other venues are awful prices for a Ballydoyle maiden. Often they deserve to be 3/1 or higher on form or ability. For instance, he had a maiden, who had looked a sure fire winner following from its debut, turned over last night after been backed into 1/4. While its a cliche, Weld does target the meeting and often sends his best prospects there (Go and Go, Grey Swallow). As Johnny Giles would say, each race on its merits.

You don't have the prices of the unplaced ?. I know i backed 2 of them odds on last year that didn't come in. Didn't realise how good he did in 2008.
Plus he probably had 2 runners in some races . They cant all win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

I wonder would you have come out on top on many of those years if you were backing all his runners to a similar win amount?
I wouldn't have the patience or dicipline to do that anyway.

I think i'm going to go down the route of ringing in my bets to betfair from the track this year. Some of the on-course prices are shocking, bar the tote for outsiders.

@ Bobo, yeah I hear your not doing too well alright, I'm sure myself and a few others can help you on your way next week

made big money at the curragh [Mon Champion].Bahrain Storm will win if the ground is good or better,no soft. will be there on monday night for the biggest cert of the meeting [Weld] in the Mc Donagh hcp im going in very big time ,big time.

Weld will win the 2m hcp big big time .have every penny on this ,the big thing of Galway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

    Which of his two though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭sting60

The going at Galway this morning is soft at best according to an owner who walked the course.Bahrain Storm and Mon Champion are in big trouble as they both need good or better but both are jumping out of their skins.Aggies Lad is fancied at a big price in a three mile hurdle race [David Casey suggestion].I cannot have any of O Briens at galway, remember Rock of Cashel [full brother to Rock of Gibralter] 4/6 Weld won with Grey Swallow.Weld brings alot of his top maidens to Galway.I also think he will win the plate.

    The other one I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,498 ✭✭✭✭cson

My own opinion is that I tend to look for horses with previous form on the track; it's a very unique track and a lot of horses don't 'get' it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭sting60

Hail Ceaser in first is highest rated on flat by a mile .was beaten 4l by see the stars and 4l by fame and glory.2nd race top weight i hear a symphony is very well handicapped.3rd race weld.4th race weld big time.enjoy your life e/w and apt manor.Off to Galway in the morning so if Weld is beaten in the big race ive had a bad night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

    And Weld in the Bumper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭GampDub

Personally I'm not a fan of the Galway Races... too many bad races!!! Its hard enough to pick a winner in Good races, nigh impossible in bad ones...

Having said that its hard not to get caught up in the event and have a bit of an interest... Today I've done a Heinz 57 on 6 of Welds runners, his stats here speak for themselves and in my experience he tends to have most of his winner in the first couple of days...

Aside from that just got word for Northern Rocker in the first, its from someone that wouldn't be big into the horses but knows a lot of people who are. I'll probably have a small e/w bet for the sake of the info - should get around 16/1.

Best of luck to those that are getting involved heavy!!!

    Haha Ted is such entertainment.

"Great wide arse on him, great power in him"

"If they're sweatin, between the cheeks of his arse, then they're gettin nervous"

I did an e/w double today.A horse in the 5.10 and the 6.20.The 5.20 horse was a non-runner and the 6.20 came in last. Will I get my money back?
    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭GampDub

Your bet will become a single bet on the winner...

No afraid not. Your 6.20 bet was unplaced so unfortunately, you lose your bet.

Sublime talent beat. Weld said on RTE earlier that he had it all to do,didn't seem to fancy it so much.

Didn't see the race but fancied it myself, however, didn't get out of work to back it :( Was well backed too I saw, which is strange,as the Weld horse drifted.
Really fancy Why in the maiden tonight, even at a short price. It would be odds on any other track.

    5.45 Natal
6.20 Don Leone & Diego Garcia ew
    7.00 If Per Chance
    7.35 Hasty Katie
    8.05 He's Got Rhythm
    8.35 Purple Land

Didn't get a chance to head to a bookies yesterday at all. Wouldn;'t have done any good anyways

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 Mr. sneakyboo

My first post on 1 these boards got involved to hear peoples opinion and toughts on racing.

Today I fancy Invisible Man in 5.45 he just missed out on the Plate for 2mw but trainer give him an entry for 2day as well so he takes his chance and must be worth interest since travelled from England. I see there has been support in market for him too.
Similar to yesterday fields seem be too big n competitive so thats all i'll invest in.

Speaking of competitive and big fields any1 have fancy for Plate 2mw?
Not a fan of the trainer but think Dancing Tornado has right chance at 12/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    5.45 - Natal
    6.20 - My Valley e/w
    7.00 - Maundy Money e/w
    8.05 - Fit The Cove

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭LutherBlissett

The Galway Races - a celebration of mediocrity of the highest order.

I wouldn't mind Grand Slam Hero each way in the Plate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 Mr. sneakyboo

Yet again its going be tough to pick a winner today bt im going go for two horses.
In the first il have interest in Moi Desire at 10/1 to win and il stick with dancing tornado e/w in the Plate who runs best fresh and has run in much more competitive races than this.... Winner of a grade 2. Paddy Power are paying 1st 5 too.
    Interesting see what people fancy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,344 ✭✭✭death1234567

il stick with dancing tornado e/w in the Plate
Dancing tornado is a Non-Runner for the plate. Gone for a triple in the first three of Final Day, Fairwood Bob and First Beauty and I have Cnoc An Einn backed e/w for the second.

I like Caesar's Song each way in the maiden at 7/1 at 4.45
