Removed ivy - how to paint walls?

    We had ivy on our wall - painted masonry. The man who was supposed to trim it has pulled it off, along with huge chunks of paint. We need to paint the front wall of our house, which is now in a bit of a state - half painted, half now messed up. What do we need to apply where paint is gone - primer? And should we use textured paint? Only the front wall needs done - and it didn't need done until yesterday!

    A couple of coats of one of the outdoor house paints like Sandtex or Dulux Weathershield should do the job.

    In fairness to your ivy-removing guy, ivy is pretty well impossible to remove without damaging the surface. In order to trim it he would have to have cut and then pull off the leading runners, which would inevitably damage the house. That is why so many people recommend that you do not grow ivy on a house.
