Living the high protein life, but help needed

    We all know that protein is the very centre of the universe when it comes to weighlifting, recovery and a healthy lifestyle, and for the most part i eat clean. I am in the gym 4 days a week and lifiting fairly heavy, so i would like to get my money's worth for all the effort i put in. But some criticism please of some of my protein rich meals.

    I often cook the usual, shicken stir fry with wholemeal pasta or rice, with plenty of veg. Steak is another common component in my diet. But chickne breast and steak can be expensive.

    Some other things i have tried are baked potato filled with cottage cheese - too much carbs? And natural peanut butter on Tuc crackers - too much salt? Oatmeal for breakfast with some protein powder mixed in is a good start to the day.

    Tinned tuna in wholemeal pasta is another quick meal i eat in the evening.

    Any other ideas of easy protein delivery systems?

    Eggs! Hard to beat them for quick cheap protein. Also tinned fish like salmon or sardines or mackerel. Protein and Omega 3 fats at the same time.

    My protein with the Tuc biscuits would be the white flour and processed fats, not the salt. If you made it Ryvita or something similar, I'd be happier.

    Potatoes are fine if you are exercising hard.

    Why stick to chicken breast? Buy a whole chicken and roast it, then take off the bits you want. Or even boil it and do the same. Use the stock for soup.

    Wholemeal pasta and rice are better than white, but not by a whole lot. i rather swap for beansprouts, pak choy etc and have more meat.

    Potatos are ok in moderation, but again, these are just carbs, not reall high protein meals.

    Oats, are carbs too, but pretty great ones, mixed with whey its a great brekkie. For a change, eggs are a great protein Brekkie too.

    Peanut butter (and nuts in general) isn't a good source or protein. It's a good source of fat.

    I have a thing for the following as my latest protein fix;
    Jerky-50g protein per 100g - enough said
    Turkey - 25g protein per 100g, lower than chicken and beef but, pretty close to 0g fat and carbs
    Kangaroo- as above

    Biltong is very similar. There's a butcher in Parnell Street (opposite McDonalds in the ILAC) which makes their own, and the South African shop in Great Strand Street always has some.
