I just noticed the New EPG is available in Dublin now.
Sorry for not complaining about it but it is a big improvement IMO.
very fast loading, easy to navigate, overall much more user friendly.
Black UPC branded +box[not HD,service not even available here or phone or Broadband]

Still leaves only now&next on each channels banner which is surely something that can be adressed by future software updates?
really the now&next is the only issue but that was the case before the new guide anyway.

half a loaf better than none!:)

At least with the old one i could select just my "favorite channels".
You still can. Press the red Search button and it's the second entry on the menu.

We had the new EPG for a week now and it is not an improvement from the previous one.
So here are some suggestion for UPC
    1) improve scrolling so that the list is not redrawn every time
    2) allow to memorize a prefered view (I like the one channel view)
    3) allow to remove the video in the background

Finally I don't know if others have noticed but since the upgrade, you can record 2 program at the same time if the box is in standby (not watching live TV).
This is annoying as when ever you want to watch TV and you have already 2 programs being recorded then you will lose one of them. You have no control on which one. This dual recording mode is particularly annoying... I wish it could be set on or off in the settings.

You could always do that, the PVRs are Dual tuner. You would need a triple tuner to record two and watch a third.

Still havnt go the update in north dublin on the HD PVR.

Yes I know that the PVR are dual tuner. However since the upgrade, and only since then whenever I want to record two programs in sequence (8 ->9 and 9->10) and the box is in standby. it will always start recording the second program using the tuner used for live tV. The reason is that I always add a litle extra time to allow for delay in some of the channels.

Before the upgrade, the PVR would use only the recording tuner and just stop the first recording at 9 and start the second. So the 2nd tuner was always available to watch TV.
Now, I have to cancel recording the second program or wait for it to finish recording.

The new software in general has made a few improvements, but its not much less prone to unresponsiveness, random dumps back to previous screens from menus or pointless (and slooooowwwww) loading.

Seriously makes me wish UPC had something like a CableCard option for people who wanted to roll their own.

As Aidan has said I will give the new EPG that it doesnt seem to crash out, hang, or take 10 seconds to load like the one used to, but unfortunatley the shocking lag when pressing channel/page up/down just negates any of the benefits it brings.

Not overly impressed by the new update but it has improved the speed you can scroll through the mini epg so thats one positive. Also may be too early but my tv planner hasn't erased itself since the update. Maybe they finally got around to fixing this!

It is still the worse epg ever invented. It's horrible loooking and slow and useless
    How bad can it get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 644 ✭✭✭Eamo71

While the new EPG is not getting my heart racing it is an improvement. I'm having no issues with responsiveness. It runs very smoothly for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 104 ✭✭steo2k9

I think the new one's crap. It takes way too long to scroll and if you press down 10 times it keeps going down really slow until it goes 10 times. Entertainment isn't there anymore and it says all channels instead of listing categories (you have to press search to search the big list).

I like the old one better, is it possible to put the old one back on or are we stuck with this crap. I end up just pressing numbers or chup/down because it's nearly unusable.

If you are in the guide and in the sports channels for example and you want to go to eg. TV3 just key in '103' and it will bring you to TV3's listings

I did discover the better implementation of More Showings last night which is very nice (Info on a program title and press Right).

The option to choose if you want to record just the one episode showing or all episodes in the series is gone? Or has it moved? I can't find it anyway. Really annoying.

Works fine for me on series linked shows.

Really? Does it work for you on World News on BBC 4? (Daily at 7 or so)

I won't have the ability to check this weekend I'm afraid, out of town. I'm sure someone else will be able to confirm for you.

I do know that it has worked on BBC HD, FX, Sky 1 and several other channels though.

    Complete Fail imho.

More prone to crashing, the EPG is horrible to navigate, lack of an 'Entertainment' program group.

We've actually gotten to the point in our house of fighting over who doesn't[/] have the remote!

Seriously, how difficult is it to code a decent program guide? The UI stuff isn't rocket-science ffs.

Got the update yesterday on my Cisco HD pvr, No complaints here. New guide dosnt seem noticeably slower than the old one. Its easier to see where your indicator is on the guide as it expands on the highlighted.

The EPG bar seems like its unchanged, i wouldn't use the guide much anyway.

Can't believe this has gone either. All shows that I had as series linked now aren't. I can't even find ouit how to set it up again. Is the only option to set up programs manually on the "set repeat recording" option, and then enter the time etc?

Just hit record on a series-link enabled program and it'll ask if you want to record just one episode or the whole series.

i have noticed that the response has become much better as in scrolling through channels on the guide is no instant and dosent reload everytime

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,234 ✭✭✭✭djimi

Hasnt improved much here. I just pressed page down and it took over 5 seconds for it to respond.

Yes UPC has improved it well done.

One more improvement would really make it however.

When you press guide to start with the loading time is too long I wonder if this can be fixed also?

Yes it's great to see them roll out updates quickly for this. I like the way the loading window is now removed, so the EPG overlays directly after hitting the guide button.
