Will a UK Freeview+ HD box work with Irish DTT? 99% Yes.

Might be of interest to you, my brother in London, saw a Tesco own brand - Technika Freeview HD + box for £200 in Epsom yesterday. Any cousins or friends in UK could get one for you ?

Technika Freeview HD box on sale in Tescos (Lisburn) for £100 though no HD here in NI until DSO except you can pick it up from across the pond.

Hi, Folks. Can anyone tell me if the STB currently on offer at www.boffer.co.uk will decode mpeg 4 ?

Yes it does MPEG4 *& HD, but it's not that great value, and I'd worry about AAC audio. Saorview may change to AAC audio.

My advice is to wait. Prices are falling for DVB-t HD gear. There is no rush. Get a full spec Saorview certified box, maybe next Easter.

The pioneers are the ones that get arrows in the back.

I've never heard of "Digital Stream" and 320G is nearly 2 years ago size of PVR. Sky now have a 1,500G byte PVR.

1000Gbyte/1T is likely to be standard. Sport on RTE2 will increasingly be HD and that uses up the hard drive x4 faster.

Whatever you do get, make sure you can manually schedule recordings, or automatically add time to the end, as late night RTE regularly drifts very badly from the EPG schedule, programmes starting 20 mins late is not uncommon.

Will 99% of UK DVB-T2 kit be backward compatible to the Irish DTT ? Obviously I know DVB-T2 is backward compatible to DVB-T MPEG-2 for Freeview standard but would it include MPEG-4 and MHEG-5 ?

Do all Panny sets from the UK or are special Irish models being launched ? Are there any manufacturers with Pan European models ?

If you are going for a panny, stay away from the UK ones. Get a french model & make sure it has a sticker "TNT" on it. That will confirm it will be compatible with Irish DTT.Try Pixmania.
