SIP/ATA Adapters

Hi again guys, what sort of adapter would I need for an existing Eircom wiresless phone (analogue), to connect to a combined UPC router/modem?

Looking on the web some of them seem to have their own routers integrated etc...just a little confused. Also are there any vendor suggestions? Cheers

If you're getting your phone service from UPC, they will provide you with a modem/router that has analogue phone adapters.

If you're using a different phone provider (eg Blueface) then any ATA on its own will do the trick. I use a linksys ATA that just connects to the router, and it works great.

Cheers Brian, UPC dont yet offer the phone service in my area so I'll more than likely be going with blueface. Are there any cheaper alternatives to that Linksys - 85 quid is a fair whack, I'd quicker buy a VOIP phone if getting into that price range. Cheers

Search for "pap2 ata" on Ebay, there are several boxes out there, starting at 25 euro. Straight from Asia and it is Linksys.

I bought 2 of them, one for me and one for a friend (she is on UPC). Hers broke down after 3 months (it's never me but the friend I recommend it to )

Ordered a 3rd one and that has been going strong sofar. Still recommended for the price.

Thats more along the price I was thinking Although I never place too much faith in the quality of a product from, lets say, that far east. Are they genuine Linksys do you reckon? I suppose for that money its not the end of the world if not...

Yes, I am pretty sure they are genuine. I think most come from users that upgraded to more luxurious and capable adapters. What the dealers do to them I don't know. I saw a post somewhere that it requires a hardware hack to unlock them but I examined the broken adapter and could not find any solder or cuts.
