Running footware/Shin Splints

    Make sure you have the right footware on when running, especially if you are sprinting on hard ground.
    went running in a pair of trainers that were old and not up to the job.

    Physio now tells me I have shin Splints and will be out for up to 3 weeks while they heal.


    I really should have known better.:o

    Yeah, I found that out the hard way. Good shoes make all the difference.

    Also good insoles as well.

    or "orthotics" as we have to call them now.

    Shin splints come and go though, sometimes I'll get the pain for a minute or two in the first 10minuts of a run sometimes later on and sometimes longer.

    Icing up after running helps, along with pain killers. Also go to Youtube and search on shin splints, there's some very effective exercises for eliminating them.

    Afaik they're a symptom of weak calves, get your calf muscles buffed up and you'll be set.

    Disclaimer: I'm just an amateur runner so check with physio. If the pain doesn't go away it can be sign of micro-fractures that are serious.

    more a symptom of poor calf flexibility, ankle mobility and tight soleus muscle on the front of the shins.

    I really should do a video on this some time
