They played (and should have beaten) Offaly. Didn't play the Dubs this year

That's right. They took Offaly to extra time. This Antrim team must be a bit better than anyone thought.

For all the talk of Dublin making progress they're still not getting beyond a certain level, and this result puts them right back to square one.

Totally agree if the Dubs where as good as some people think then they would have won today and even last year vs Limerick! The performance against the cats in last years final has made many people draw false views of this team, they are pretty Average...down there in the Clare,Wexford,Limerick,Offaly group of the championship!...on a side note unless Offaly shock us all Antrim will have gotten further than all of the above mentioned teams despite their lack of hurling tradition in comparison with them, who would of thought that in June eh!?

Good result for Antrim and a big setback for Dublin. Dinny Cahill must be doing some work up there

It is a blow for Dublin but it's also a bit of a reality check. Dublin aren't good enough to just go out in a championship game and expect to win. They were absolutely dominated between the two 45s by Antrim, especially after Peter Kelly and Liam Rushe were taken off. I didn't see if Dotsy picked up a knock or not but if he didn't, I think it was a huge mistake to take him off. John McCaffrey not playing was a big loss aswell as he adds a bit of steel and solidity to midfield which we were sorely lacking. Fair play to Antrim though, they battled to the end and were full value for their victory.

You say that like it's a bad thing! I'm delighted to see Dublin around the same level as those 4 traditional hurling powers. Most Dublin fans know what level we're at and have seen how inconsistant we've been all year. I do believe we're on the right path though and as long as the young players keep coming through, we'll keep progressing.

really hope the dubs progress further next year, was at that match today and was shocked with the result, the lads just seemed to be tired on the pitch, last week against clare they hoovered up every loose and breaking ball, this week they seemed to be ball watching and being caught off guard. really gutted to see them go out. . .

Congratulations to Antrim. To come back from 6 points down in the second half showed great determination.

Hopefully Antrim can cement their place amongst the aforementioned teams and be well able to compete in the years ahead. It's great to have an Antrim team that is capable of coming through the qualifiers. Hopefully the q/final draw is favourable.

Congratulations to Antrim on their fine win today. I think the last saturdays and wednesday's match took it out of the Dubs and they faded in the second half.

However one ugly thing that I did see at the end of match was the Antrim Number 2 holding his hurl like a gun and firing shots into the hill. That to me is disgusting and uncalled for and some action should be taken against him for that.

Fup, fup, fup, and fup again. The banker in my four team accumulator and they leave me down. Absolutely stunned that Antrim won this game. I've seen Antrim this season and they are not at the same level as Dublin. The Metropolitans succumbed to a large dose of complacency. Dublin have beaten Tipp, Galway and Clare already this year. They are much, much, better than this. But I wouldn't consider it a major setback for them, more a wake-up call. It would not have helped that they lined out against Clare last Saturday added to the fact that Rushe and Treacy amongst others played for the U-21s on Wednesday nite but even still, one would imagine with the right frame of mind they would have had enough in the tank to see off Antrim by 6-8 points. Still, congrats to the Saffrons. Dinny Cahill was blowing his team's trumpet in the papers during the week, his boys showed character beyond belief to stick with Dublin today.

Could not believe what I was hearing when I heard this result on the way to Thurles. Great result for Antrim. Dinny Cahill and his panel have my utmost admiration for keeping the game going north of the border and battling aganst almost impossible odds year in, year out to compete at this level.

Great news really, we know Dublin are a team who are establishing themselves but now we can also be hopeful that Antrim will be able to make the step up too in the next few years.

    Come on Offaly !!!!!!

So it's Cork v Antrim and Galway v Tipp/Offaly now (pretty sure of that).

Galway have drawn the short straw here for sure. I'm assuming Tipperary will beat Offaly, and that's who we'll be playing. Offaly put up a very good showing against Galway but I can't see them beating Tipp.

Semis now will be Kilkenny v Cork and Waterford v Galway or Tipperary (that seems to be how it's panning out if results go as expected, though you never know, few would have expected Antrim to beat Dublin and Offaly have turned out to be a bit better than expected).

if the biffos win then Galway play Antrim I think if Tipp win then its Galway v Tipp

Let's remind you of where you're from? Oh yes, the laughing stock of Irish hurling that is Limerick.

It was far from funny and given the history of where that young lad is from, you think he'd have known better.

No complaints on the result, we thought we had it won when we went 6 points up and paid the price for poor option taking in the forwards by going for goals instead of keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

I also saw two antrim players making the "wanker" gesture to the hill at full time.

I think this match was lost from the sideline. When the dubs got a bit of a lead they took their foot off the pedal and Daly made a load of substitutions.

Also, can anyone tell me what was going on at half time? The subs all stayed in their seats in the stand and the management and selectors all spent half of full time standing on the pitch talking while the players were in the dressing room

Another day of Sheedy experimenting in the champioship, dosent it inspire confidence. Tipp finally find a center forward and so decide to start him mid field .. and put a mid fielder at center fwd. Hope GRyan gets found out today also, cant understand how he is in ahead of Hennesy ?? Some loose ball points the last day and suddenly he is the missing link ? Will watch Patrick Maher with interest today also, jury still out cant make mind about him yet? Agree with Callannan ( the inigma) on bench will be interesting to see him as an impact sub

    Tipp 21 OY 1-12.

    Tipp v Galway & Cork v Antrim

Next Sunday in Croker i guess? I'm assuming that Thurles is out.

I wouldn't rule out Thurles. Apparently there will be a double header on Saturday in Croker so it is unlikely that there will be 2 double-headers as much as I'd like to go to Croker.

They could have Tipp V Galway in Limerick I'd say. As for Antrim and Cork I don't know

They've had double headers on both days of a weekend several times the last few years, I've been to loads of them, great way to spend the weekend.

I don't think they'd give home advantage to Tipp in the hurling though.

Very unlikely they'd go for Limerick for a 1/4 final, they'll more then likely make it Thurles, sure last year the Limerick-Dublin(Cork would nearly bring that many fans alone as that game did) game was the curtain raiser to Waterford-Galway.

I know the Cork-Antrim on paper should be a stroll for Cork but i think Cork alone being involved would justify putting both of them in Thurles, Tipp-Galway will bring a decent crowd and Cork on top would make it worthwhile putting it there IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,100 ✭✭✭Browney7

Would Galway agree to Thurles though?? They mightnt want to give Tipp home advantage

The Gaelic Ground is a fairly decent stadium in GAA terms but am I right in saying there hasn't been a single championship game played there this year. It has been left idle most of the year. The GAA should put the double header in Limerick and give it the full house it deserves.
