Ive been recently reading "New Atkins, new you" by drs Eric westman, stephen phinney and jeff volek and im theres a few things id like to clear up.
Im thinking of following the plan to #1 lose my belly fat and tone up
#2 help control my blood suar levels and destroy my candida baddies for good (ive been battling for 4 years)
What i woild like to know is what amount of carbs should i start at as i dont want to lose much weight, maybe a lb or two and should i watch my calories as well to avoid putting on weight.

There's plenty of advice on killing candida on here - do a search, Eileen's advice in particular worth reading. Would advise taking Threelac too

If you have candida, you need to be superstrict with cutting carbs. Literally, cut everything except the green veggies. Don't take chances with a taste of this or a bite of that, or try a low carb bar or anything like that. You literally have to go paleo for a couple of weeks, and can then gradually start bringing back the slightly higher carb things.

I'm sorry, I know it's horrible, but it's worth it to get rid of the candida. After four years, a couple of weeks isn't that much.

The good news is that you can and should eat plenty of protein and fat. Extra virgin olive oil is great (you can rub in on any particularly itchy areas for a temporary relief) on a salad, and you can eat lots of eggs and salmon and steak etc. Even so, you'll probably lose more than a pound or two, but once you've got the candida gone, you can make it up again.

Thanks for the replies,so should i start at induction level at 20g of carbs daily?Im about 106lbs and 5ft 2 so i cant see myself losing alot of weight or will i?Actually my main concern was putting on a load of weight from eating more calories than im used to regarless of the fat burning reaction to eating low carb.

On an average day i wouldnt be a mad carb eating person anyways, usually its qinoa porridge with chia seeds and soya milk for breakfast,Salad with either roast chicken/salmon/tuna or sardines and a wallaby bar(cashew and macadamia bar only sweetened with vanilla) maybe a pack of those root veg crisps (yum) dinner is uaually homemade turkey burger/salmon/roast chicken with boiled veg (brocolli, turnip, cabbage).Soya yogurt with some almonds as a late snack.
I take strong probiotics 10billion per capsule before breakfast and i take garlic capsules after dinner.

Initially, at the start, you may find yourself eating similar portion sizes to what you do now. However, you will find that protein-based meals are far better at filling you up (along with the good fats) and you will find yourself eating less.

The amount of calories you ingest won't actually increase, unless of course, you start deep-frying everything.

I wouldn't even worry about a number for carbs, as much as avoiding all carbs except for leafy green veg. It is possible, even with a 20g limit, to have a spoonful or sugar, or a small glass of apple juice or a thin slice of bread. If you are dealing with candida, you've got to resist the temptation.

If you go over 20g and it's all high fiber, leafy greens, I wouldn't worry.

Yeah, tell that to someone who hasn't actually had it. I ended up on the Candida diet after a 14 day prescription course of Diflucan failed to shift thrush from my milk ducts.

emmm yeah thanks for the great info teacosy

How long were you on the candida diet EileenG?
Do you agree that dairy is allowed on the plan such as hard cheese and yogurt. There is so much confusion with different opinions.hard cheese has no carbs so im wondering does it feed yeast.
    Im planning on starting tommorow!

I stayed on it for about three months, just to make absolutely completely certain it was gone, but the pain was gone after about a week.

I reckon plain yogurt is okay, and hard cheese after the first couple of weeks. Just to be on the safe side, I would stay off the cheese to start with.
