I've heard about this new Power Plate vibrating machine and I'd like to try it. Anybody has ant idea about how it's working and where it can be tried?

Need some excitement in your life? Nothing to live for anymore?

There are plenty of places that you can try it....but I would ask yourself several questions.
    1. Am I happy with having my retinas attched where they are?
    2. Do I want to stress test my brain stem and brain for irreglarities by oscilating at 50 or so time per second in 3 dimensions?

If you answered Yes to one and No to the other...then go for it :)

There is one of these machines in the relatively small gym in my office.

Some of the exercises I have seen being demonstrated are absoloutely ridiculous, because I am a frequent gym user my colleagues and friends have asked me numerous times if it's any use.

The only people I have ever seen using it are out of shape, overweight individuals. Usually women.

The machine has been in the gym for 6 months. These people are still out of shape and still overweight.

    Don't use it.

just asking about, it sounds terrifying as you're saying
I`m convinced that it's not so bad
heard that Johnathan Ross is using it and he's not in a wheel chair yet

Just find some sh!teheap of a car and sit on the bonnet for a while. If you're feeling adventurous, stand on it and do squats. Same difference as a power plate.

If you wanna get in shape, then put in some effort. If jiggling about was what it took to get in shape, everyone would be wobbling on these things and looking like an Adonis.

Exactly how is it supposed to help you lose weight/get fit?

Just doesn't make any sense to me!
