    Hi Guys,

Quick Q on sit ups and things like that! Fairly tore into them on Sunday with a medicine ball and stomach is still killing me! Is it best to leave it for a few days before going again?

I would have thought that if you reduced the amount of them you do per session, you'd be able to do them more regularly, with the overall objective of increasing the amount of sit-ups that you can do daily/every 2 days.

Very little point in just tearing into them once and then not being able to go at it again for a few days due to pain.

If you havn't worked your abs in a long time and then suddenly do a lot of sittups then it's only natural that they will be sore for a few days. Just give them a few more days rest before workin them again.

    Hi

Also the core area of your body consists of more than just the "Six Pack" so IMHO you should be doing a routine which works and strengthens your entire core area rather than just "tearing" into sit-ups.

A strong stable core is beneficial for everyday activities as well as sports and weightlifting.

    Best Regards,

    M

Agreed, then you should probably do them 2-3 times a week (no more)
the sittups will not be as painful once you get into a routine :)

You most likely have DOMS (delayed onset muscle stress), which is caused by working out a muscle that you haven't worked out in a while. Give it a few days and the pain should go.

In future, protein intake straight after a workout will help ease the pain the following day(s). This is because when you work out a muscle you tear microfibres that make up that muscle. Your body then goes about repairing itself. These microfibres repair themselves and become bigger and stronger. This is how your muscles get bigger. Protein intake straight after a workout (and throughout the day) helps the microfibres in your muscles to repair themselves.

Anyway, what in the name of God were you doing "tearing" into a load of sit-ups? What were/are you trying to acheive? Don't tell me you think you'll get a six-pack from sit-ups........

Ah, feel grand now!! Gonna lash into them tonight but hopefully wont be as sore!

I blame the medicine ball! It wasnt just sit up's.. It was more the sitting on the ground, doing a mini dive, cathing it and throwing it back 70 times..

    :(
