As a tip for helping him load his van.

he gave me whatever loose change he had in his pocket and i said thanks. sound.

but when i looked through it looking for change i found a 1p coin from 1988 with a peacock bird thing on the front and harp on the back.

What should i do with it or is it any good for anything ?

Seriously? Do you not remember 1 pence pieces. It's worth the copper (and maybe zinc 'n shih) it's made from. Keep it as a lucky penny if ya want, but there's still thousands of them floatin around.

Shops used to accept the Sterling 5p and 10p no problem

Right up until they introduced the Euro you could do this.

    i remember that one too.

i remember the 10p one was similar (i think... might be wrong) but it had a pig on it ?

    can't remember the rest though.

I can't believe you made a thread on this.

Might get out all my old Irish money and make a thread about it....

    No, wait....that would be pointless...

    20p was a horse.

5p was the brown bull of Cooli (or something).

    50p was Kingfisher.

Try putting it in one of the self service machines in Tesco. The machine might think it's a five cent piece or something.

5p was just a bull, while 50p was a woodcock, not a kingfisher

You could also give it to someone that plays guitar. They could use it as a plectrum.

If you like find coins interesting I thought you might like to see some Cypriot money that I have. You won't see these anymore because they now have the Euro in Cyprus.
    20 P
    20 P back
    50 P
    50 P back

And here's a Latvian coin. Front Back

I just wish we could go back to the old Irish money instead of the useless Euro`s.

Don't forget the notes, they were classy little numbers. James Joyce on a tenner wasn't it, and Daniel O'Connell with a head like he'd just swallowed a bowl of acid on the £20.
    Better times.

I have all the old coins in a box, I'm hoping they'll be worth something when I reach Wibb's age, or if I reach the same age as randylonghorn
