For reasons such as joint pain i only use dbells for chest and shoulder work,i find when using a bar for these pressing movements i get aches and pains in my shoulder joins.(tendons supraspinatus to be exact)
Was wondering do many people stick to either type for similar reasons, and in the long run is it a good plan to avoid using a bar at all.

Do you do any pulls/rows to balance your presses?

Try using a closer grip, if you haven't already

Arm curls on a standard bar are not for me, pressing movements are fine with oly bars. Another poster recommended a fat bar and a thumbs under hold for bench, in an older thread, have you tried these?
