Cant believe that Gilroy has told Rory O Carroll that if he plays in this game on Wednesday night that he will not be considered for the football on Saturday. People are working their arse's off in Dublin to promote both codes and for the Dublin football manager to do this is just a kick in the face to those people. As this season goes on I am disliking Gilroy more and more. :(

Bit of controversy in Dublin with Gilroy not letting O'Carroll hurl for the u-21's. Disgrace imo that not allowed hurl.

+1 this is a joke.. it's his last under 21 season give him a break and let him enjoy a Leinster Hurling Final... A great experience for the team especially after beating KK to get there..

Is it really Gilroy or Micky Whealan pulling the strings in the background???

Is it really Gilroy or Micky Whelan pulling the strings in the background???

You got an hour or two, would love to let off some steam about it ;)

Four of the U21 panel are playing for the senior hurlers at 3pm on Saturday while O'Carroll is due to play at 5pm with the senior footballers.

Apparently, Stakelum is going to approach the County Board to try and resolve it.

Think it might take more than an hour or two!!

    As Daly said..

"I think it's unbelievable really. We'll have four guys playing in the U-21 match and again on Saturday.
"The football management's point of view is that it's too much to ask him to play on Wednesday and again on Saturday but he's a 20-year-old, fit, young fella," an irate Daly said. "60 minutes' hurling on Wednesday is not going to make him unavailable for Saturday. It's a joke as far as I'm concerned."

I'm with Daly. A complete Joke. O'Carroll should play for the U-21 hurlers. He may damage his football prospects this year but everyone knows Gilroy won't be over the footballers forever.

Disgusted with Gilroy over this. I don't know if Whelan is the one pulling the strings on this decision, IMHO I think it might be, if it is he has some vendetta against Dublin going on with the way the senior players were left of the squad. Agree with Daly it is a joke. Hope someone involved in the County Board has the balls to tell Gilroy that he is playing and that's the end of it. This is a joke where players cannot be dual players.

Everything Daly says on this issue makes complete sense. Very unfair on a lad trying to win a Leinster medal in his last year u-21 & its not as if he has a hope in hell of winning anything with the footballers this year.

Dublin Under 21 team has been name and no Rory O'Carroll. Absolute disgrace. Cant believe the Dublin Football management are this petty.

    2 Ronan Walsh (Kilmacud Crokes)
    3 Darren Kelly (Craobh Chiaráin)
    4 Oisín Gough (Cuala)
    5 Robert O’Loughlin (Kilmacud Crokes)
    6 Martin Quilty (Na Fianna)

    Gilroy is really bolloxing alright.

The Tipperary U-21 hurling team to play Cork in the Munster U-21 hurling semi-final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Wednesday night, July 14th includes 7 senior hurling team panellists and will be captained by centre back Padraic Maher:

    The team is:

    1. James Logue (Ballingarry)
    2. Kevin O’Gorman (Thurles Sarsfields)
    3. John Coghlan (Moyne Templetuohy)
    4. Michael Cahill (Thurles Sarsfields)
    5. James Barry (Upperchurch Drombane)
    6. Padraic Maher (Thurles Sarsfields) Captain
    7. Brendan Maher (Borris-Ileigh)
    8. Seamus Hennessy (Kilruane MacDonaghs)
    9. Noel McGrath (Loughmore Castleiney)

    13. Adrian Ryan (Templederry Kenyons)

id expect Noel McGrath and Adrian Ryan to switch.
alot of the Tipp subs must feel very unlucky not to be starting.

There are rumours doing the rounds that O'Carroll may be allowed play some part in the game tonight. Seems the county board may have stepped in and told Gilroy where to go. :D Hopefully this rumour is true.:D

Tough one for Clare to start but I really expect them to be there or there about's again this year. The senior team this year contained numerous players - don't know the exact figure off hand - who were on last years team and under age again this year.

There are 7 of last years winning team starting tonight, including 5 who were in senior action at the weekend. The five seniors are Donal Touhy, Nicky O O'Connell, Sean Collins, John Conlon, Darach Honan the other two are Camin Morey, and Conor McGrath.

The biggest problem for this years team I feel is that only two of last years team remain in defense, so the newcomers will really have to step up to the plate. The forwards do look strong.

Teams (as reported in the examiner) are as follows:
    CLARE U21H: D Tuohy; D Nash, C Chaplin, J Gunning; N O'Connell, C Morey, P O'Connor; S Golden, P Vaughan; S Collins, J Conlon, K Heagney; D Honan, F Kennedy, C McGrath.

    LIMERICK U21H: B Hennessy; B Cleary, P Begley, C Hayes; P O’Brien, P O’Loughlin, N Quaid; T O’Brien, P Browne; J O’Brien, C Madden, D Hannon; M Kiely, S Tobin, G Mulcahy.

    Half Times.
    Clare 0-06 Limerick 0-06
    Wexford 0-08 Dublin 0-07

Can't get the Cork Tipp score at the moment.

Great first half from Limerick were 0-6 to 0-01 points up after about 22 minutes but were pegged back by half time.

Limerick and Clare level at 8 points a piece. Very tight game. Limerick got a lot of soft frees in the first half and were 6 to 1 up after 20 mins before clare finished the first half with a flourish. Clare slightly on top now and with all the ball that Darach Honan is getting they should be well ahead, lot of bad wides. Tommy O Brien playing a stormer for Limerick. Good crowd of about 5k here i'd say. Honan just missed another sitter and Clare keeper Touhy has made two super saves from O Brien.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Clare corner back has just kicked the ball into his own net. Then clare go down the other end and get a goal of their own after Limerick full back begley slips. 1-12 to 1-13 for clare.

Just home from the Gaelic Grounds. That was a very tight game, even after the soft goal we got i knew Clare would come right back at us. And so it proved - Darach Honan (who i thought was poor on the night) swept home a great goal after full back Pat Begley had slipped. That gave Clare the impetus to tack on a few more scores which they did.

This game was lost by Limerick on the sideline, we were 0-6 to 0-1 up after 15 mins of the first half and generally in command. Our half back line was winning most of the ball and Clare were hitting some bad wides. Graeme Mulcahy and Sean Tobin were doing well inside. Yet Leo O'Connor and his selectors decide to change it and switch James O'Brien from wing forward to full. He'd been doing well there and had caught two great balls so there was no need to shift him. Tobin was moved out to centre forward and Mulcahy and Kiely shoved further out from goal and they barely touched the ball for the remainder of the half. Cue Clare scoring 5 points without reply and its level at half time - suicide by the Limerick sideline.

Clare won this game in the second half as their half back line was so on top that the endless supply of ball going into Honan and McGrath (who was excellent throughout) had to eventually pay dividends. Pat O'Connor, Nicky O'Connell and Caoimhín Morey were superb in the second half. Limerick had to rely on the midfield pairing of Paul Browne and excellent Tommy O'Brien for most of our creativity after half time. Kevin Downes also did very well for us when introduced, scoring two nice points and using his big frame to his advantage. Clare had Tuohy in goals to thank for denying O'Brien and Mulcahy certain goals. All in all an entertaining game, mixing the very bad and very good. Clare just about deserved it given their second half display but our guys were unlucky not to come away with the win. One thing is for sure, Clare will need plenty of target practice before the 28th, Tipp wont be as generous as Limerick were tonight.

Very tight game. A goal by either team was going to clinch the match and luckily Dublin got the goal and then added another one very late on.

Ya very true Dublin got the break and pushed on from there. Think that was the first time they led in that match, looked a little fitter than wexford too.
