It wasnt a goal and they played pretty well but that craic after the final whistle was disgraceful and only for that I would be calling for a replay.. But not now.. Just wondering what people think.. Pat Spillane is way off the mark calling for it!!

No, a replay would be unfair. As louth were winning either overturn the result and say Louth won or pretend nothing bad happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭cambridge7

If this result stands. Just like the French. Meath are cheats.

    deserve it - probably
    Get it - never

Ref gave everything to Louth for most of the game which I suppose doesn't matter. They probably deserve a replay bt there is no chance of them getting 1 unless Meath offer 1 which they won't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,336 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

If there were to be a replay, Louth should take it.

The trouble at the end was their fans, not their players or staff, etc.

I don't agree that Meath are cheats. It's up to the refs to see these things.

No. They deserve to be banned from next year's Championship because of their hooligan following.

    I agree op!
Louth deserve replay but cant see it happening..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,998 ✭✭✭Shane732

No they don't - the mistake the ref made at the end just made up for the joke of frees he was giving louth all day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

    They deserve one.
Only way they'll get one is if Meath offer it.
Odds on that happening aren't good.
The whole thing, referees decision and crowd behaviour reflects badly on the game.

Louth should just get the cup. They had it won! But meath should not get the title without another replay AT LEAST.

Silly comment. How can you blame Meath? Its solely the umpires who are to blame.

yes they do. there should be one.

They definitely deserve a replay.. Ya can't blame the team for the behavior of the supporters.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

    The players deserve it.

99.999999% of the fans deserve it.

    Neutral observers deserve it.

A handful of fúcking idiots don't deserve a thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

only way it will happen would be for meath to offer really....

there have been 2 replays i can remember.

one game, cant rememebr the teams, but a point was given that wasnt a score and a replay was offered by the winning team in the interest of fair play.

the clare v offaly saga - rules broken, so had to be replayed.

while technically rules were broken by the ref today, different story to the clare/offaly game. mistakes are made in every game, wrong decisions. what makes so huge here is what was at stake and the fact it happened in the lat minute to deny a team a first title in 50 years...

I wouldn't be surprised if Meath do offer a reply. There's not much pride for them in winning like this.

So your only a cheat if you get caught?

If you deliberately break the rules to gain unfair advantage, that's cheating

If it wasnt the final there would be a better chance of calling a reply. But the trophy has been presented to Meath and thats that. The scenes at the end with the Louth fans attacking the ref was bad, but I can understand how they feel, they were robbed.

Meath dont deserve the Leinster title. But they have it due to a officials error. It wont be a sweet victory.

I can't believe people who claim that the fans had every right to attack the ref over on the other thread.

I feel a great deal of sympathy for the Louth players and the vast majority of their fans, you'd think a replay would be a relatively fair decision.

On the other hand, I feel differently when I think of those few Louth hooligans at the end - it would be great if they had to suffer the injustice of losing unfairly.

They might and they'd probably knock them off the field the next day anyway

I dont think another team can offer a replay to a team. I doubt theres anything in the rules to scrap the result of a game and redo it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭liam7831

Ya they deserve a replay in fairness Pat Spillane is a very intelligent football man and is pretty much always right.
He knows wha he is on about, think he has a few medals to prove it too:D

The vast majority? Did you hear them everyone time Meath had a free kick? Worse than what you get out of the hill most of the time.

France V Ireland comes to mind

except no dumbass FIFA involved so lets hope the decent thing is done and the game is replayed.

Sad to see the hooligan element at the end
but Louth were robbed surely if Meath have a decency they will offer a replay.

Pat Spillane and Co in the RTE studio were furious and wer both very forcefull in saying a replay must happen.

I think it should or else give the result to Louth.

Why is no pressure ever put on the umpires and they standing a few feet from the incident?

The gaa version of French game. Disgraceful finish and disgraceful behaviour. To see refs and stewards been attacked is a sad day for gaa. Louth threw it away but still didn't deserve this.

Terrible game. The scenes of crying children getting caught up in the chaos at the end was a sad day for the GAA.

except dumbass GAA, why have rules if they are not enforced, even after you can see what was done on tv ??

Louth without a doubt deserve a replay. I know a very small number of their supporters acted disgracefully, but you could see the players pulling supporters off the ref. In my opinion it's not the ref that's at fault, it's without a doubt the umpires. How did they miss it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 115 ✭✭123easy

The ref didnt consult with the second umpire and made the decision on the spot. That was a disgrace he deserved everything he got. He should be banned as a referee

HOw can you blame an entire county for the actions of a few supporters? That was the fault of security at the venue not reaacting to the situation quickly enough

They didn't attempt to assault the ref though, which puts them a few steps up the evolutionary ladder compared to the idiots who tried, and failed, to punch the ref at point blank range.

Absolutely incorrect, its fully the referring team, specifically the umpires, fault this time.

They don't deserve a replay. They deserve to have the cup handed over to them. Daylight robbery. You can't compare it to Henry though, Sheridan can't be blamed. It's the team of ref and umpires who should be blamed. I'm surprised the umpire didn't get a belt!
Sadly they will never get a replay as you can't look at specific incidents and replay a whole match on one incident. They deserve it, but won't get it. I have utmost sympathy for the Louth players and supporters and hopefully this won't destroy them and their chances in the qualifiers. A bad weekend for GAA officials.

Louth should be allowed their replay. However I don't think there is a rule in the GAA which would allow for it.

It's dreadful shame for the players, the coaching team, the Louth GAA and as already mentioned 99.999% of Louth fans.

Very difficult to take a defeat of that nature.

There is no other way to say it but Louth were cheated out of a fair victory.

i think its fair if they had a replay. thought meath would dominate more in the game but louth played better. louth probably deserved the cup more than meath. twas shocking what happened to the ref there was no need for it. it was uncalled for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,657 ✭✭✭kingshankly

I'm just walking back from croker and I a m far from a violent man but if that ref had of came within 10 yards of me god knows what I would have done. following Louth for 30 years and a Leinster title to be taken away like this really hurts . now I haven't seen the replay but I have never been so depressed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭baldbear

No. They deserve to be banned from next year's Championship because of their hooligan following.

You can't ban a team for the actions of a few morans. If this happened to the Dubs i wonder what would happen?
A replay is the only fair thing and it has happened before in the hurling when a game was blew up early.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,629 ✭✭✭LowOdour

who would want to see louth fans inside a stadium again...im sure there was more than was caught on t.v trying to get at the ref. All these years louth have spent trying to get a competitive team together, down the drain in a few minutes

its a dreadful shame for the players to accept a so call will after what has happened and can clearly be seen on tv..exactly what happened.

it puts the whole game to shame, if a win is allowed like that.

i cant see meath offering a replay they got lucky they where poor through out the game.i know its not right but i laughed my head off at the scenes at the end the bloody cop did fec all to protect the ref.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,379 ✭✭✭CarrickMcJoe

Yes Louth deserve a replay, pity about the idiots though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,437 ✭✭✭✭Ash.J.Williams

I take it the second umpire gtf out of there when he saw the ref heading towards them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 166 ✭✭A19B1C12

I don't want Louth to get a replay even though I wanted them to win and I now feel that it is imperative to keep fans off the field after games. I always thought fans on the field was a great GAA tradition but after seeing the referee attacked by several hooligans it cannot be allowed go on in my opinion. I would have had no problem with people remonstrating with the referee as he made a very poor call but to attack him is something else, on a side note to that I was glad to see the Louth manager Peter Fitzpatrick making his point in a peaceful manner and trying to keep the thugs away. It's a sad end to a great game of football and due to a small number of braindead hooligans Louth will now be considered a thug county.
