    Interesting selection,
how comes you went with Quiros ? Do you think his game is suited for Andrews ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭mike12

Was just talking to a guy about this and Chris Wood and Lowery came up as goos e/w chances think Rory will go close think he has never shot over par around St. Andrews really depends on the weather as to what the winning score will be if its wind around Par if its calm 10/12 under.

I hope its windy and the Irish boys will revel it those conditions. I'm plumping for a shock winner and Ricky Barnes at 125/1
More realistic though would be Kaymer at 33

Alvaro obviously has the length to carry most of the trouble but he can't keep it straight so i won't be backing him

if you hung around here a bit more you would know don't dismiss a heavyballs tip,why won't he ever win a british open?,give us reasons instead of just spouting out your knowledge upon us,

You need to be fairly accurate with the driver to get the distance from the fairway and phil ain't accurate.

harro to hang around towards the back of the field

I have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that IJP is gonna do it. Have to back him.(33's)
Francesco Molinari (70's) and I'll stay loyal to Sean O'Hair (80's) will make up the 3.

Sounds like Dominic Holyer. He used to be on Sky Sports then defected to Setanta Golf.

gonna put E2e/w on nick faldo! 1000/1!! that covers my "which old timer will challenge this year" bet. actually doesnt have a bad record here, but i think he plays more golf these days than i do chess. not sure who else 2 go with! il ave 2 do my homework, later n d week. f. molinari? david duval? tom watson? ernie and luke donald? so many to choose from!!!:eek::eek::D

Tigers putting of late has been utterly gash by his standards.... unless thats fixed come thursday he hasnt a hope imo.

wonder how stricker will do, he's got form ( although the john deer classic couldnt be more different to the open! )... his low risk shortgame is fascinating, zero wrists... tried to replicate it but found it too boring! he's 40-1 on PP. worth a shot?

having followed poulter at adare for a bit im happy to say i got him completely wrong... the guy has genuine charisma. but still... those pink pants... lord almighty. he's definitely worth look tho... as is rose at 25's

has McIlroy always done well on this course?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

Just reading the BBC site there, saying there's 50mph winds making the course basically unplayable at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Justin Rose - In a wonderful run of form and a week or so break since his last victory should have him well rested. Should handle the links easily. e/w @ 25/1 (PP)
Jim Furyk - Has had a smashing season, only 2 missed cuts and 2 victories. He has taken a week in Ireland to prepare coming up to the Open before moving on to Scotland. Grinder and won't be phased by rough conditions. e/w @ 50/1 (Ladbrokes)
Shane Lowry - Conditions will suit and he has been playing well of late. I don't think he is a contender but I'm gonna have him for a top 20 @ 9/2 with PP. I think those odds are a little skinny and will be looking around for better value in the coming days.
Tom Lehman - Followed him for a few holes in Adare and he is striking it sweetly. An alright showing at Loch Lomand at the w/end. He is also a former Open winner and frequent links player. I'm backing him @ 100/30 to be top senior. (Bet365)

As usual all the english golfers will be underpriced for the Open.
Backing the likes of Poulter and Casey in majors is becoming a fast route to the poor house, hyped up like the english football team ;)
1 top 5 finish between them in 59 majors is a poor showing from 2 guys knocking around the top 10 in the world imo.

This only works on The Old Course if it's not playing firm and fast. Approaches from the left are much harder.

Unfortunately, they've been watering heavily and now with all this rain, it is going to be lusher and softer than it could have been. Chance wasted I fear.

    Let's hope for wind.

I would have serious doubts he would outscore McIlroy or McDowell. Even Harrington has good pedigree on St Andrews. I'll be sticking with T20.

lowry will be too distracted by the big time pros all around him, never mind the hot birds on the edges of the fairway etc

Top 20 bet is ridiculous IMO
last place is far more likely

What's with your lack of respect for Lowry? - 88th in world, but not good enough for you?

    Now now....

Do you know him? Just curious.

Lowry will make the cut, in fact - he'll be top 30 I'd say at the end of the week.

You're the brave one! Saw Lowry at Adare - he strikes the ball really well. Nice guy too. Hasn't let the pro game get to his head. He'll do well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭conno16

    he'll do well..
define please - he'll make a decent living out of golf, never win anything of any significance and generally be regarded as a journeyman within golf circles.
ya, i'd prob agree with that

Edit - just noticed Darren Clarke is down, didn't think he'd qualified.

Nice to see Harrington drawn with Tom Watson. 7 titles between them :)

Good draw for Darren Clarke too with his buddy Davis Love. But isnt it a bit lousy asking a former champion (and most recent British winner) Paul Lawrie to tee off at 6.30am!!

Not a spammer so I won't name the company (yes I work for them) but a dublin based sports spread betting company are refunding losing leaderboard bets if Woods wins. A good offer particularly if you're new to spread betting and your stakes are reasonably small. The max refund is 250e per person but it's a great safety net offer all the same (how many lads would lose 250e punting on the open?).
