How has boards changed your opinion

I was wondering with all the discussions and arguments that involve everything from abortion to religion to travellers, has boards or someone on boards helped you change how you view something or someone in life.

Or maybe you've learned something new about yourself.

It's made me realise there's a lot of stupid, argumentative people out there...

    ...I include myself in that.

I've learned a lot about all sorts of stuff, got some sweet bargains, had some good craic and had a lot of really good discussions with some people all thanks to boards. This place is pretty awesome.

It's confirmed what I knew all along...that I am always right. Even when it comes to things I actually know nothing about.

Somehow, after the few threads that I have read, I've come to the conclusion there is no way rock can beat paper.

It can be useful if you are propositioned by Elton John though!

That depends on your username. I've been mistaken a few times for a female. On Boards that is - not in real life.

As a foreigner, I learned a lot about dating, taking the bus, life in Dublin, and other foreigners.

Then I moved to Dublin and realized, to my great relief, that most of what I learned on boards wasn't true.

Well, except the Dublin Bus part.

Most of ye are staunch atheists. You are not afraid to express this. All in all although it is not exactly a right here, free-speech is alive and well. Gives ya a sense of hope for the future.

Plus I never hated thanks whore before I joined.

It shows a lot of hostility for pretty much every subject, and a lot of people are in AH for the sole purpose it seems to shoot others down.

However, while boards hasn't really changed my opionion on anything,it has helped inform me on subjects and from that to form a well infomed opinion. For that it is a great resource

You're having a laugh. The island is only 170 miles across at it's widest.

    The place is tiny.

    Yes.

In politics my view's on the Israeli blockade of Gaza changed a lot after getting into some discussion's with Wes. I wasn't totally aware of the extent of the blockade and the damages it was causing to the Palestinians people.

Other than that, my view's on most things haven't changed so much that I'd notice it.

It hasn't my opinion much but I would expect the following to arise
if Jesus came back and walked among us, then I would love to read some of the Threads.Eg.
Jesus feeds thousands loavs and fishes, Boards Reply – Cheap skate, did he ever hear of chips.
Jesus parts the Black Sea, frees hundreds of thousands from poverty, Boards Reply – They wanna takes our jobs.
Jesus raises man from dead, Boards Reply – Redirected to Zombie Survival.
Jesus cures leper and blind man – Boards Reply Are you listening Mary Harney.
Jesus talks to Tax man (Zaccaheus) – Boards Reply -Pay yer taxes like the rest of us.

Boards is a great source of information when it comes to whatever hobby you are interested in. My book, film and xbox collection has been enriched because of this.
Strangers, who you have never met, can be unbelievably helpful.
Some great friends have been made.

I've learnt that the time between someone's death and the time that it's acceptable to make puns/jokes in bad taste is often less than the time it takes for the body to go cold...

It changed my view about people that work in offices. They spend most of their day on boards when they should be working

Before you say anything I am off work at the moment due to an injury :D

Is it like the pub? Where the bar stool experts can solve any problem once they are sitting on a barstool and have a pint in front of them.

I learned that I am like a leaf upon the wind and like a grain of sand upon an endless beach called life. When someone comes and moves me, blows me or stands on me inadvertantly, I must peacefully rise accordingly.

...And then batter the holy fcuk out of them - THE BASTARDS!!!!

I learned that it takes 25 posts to avail of further services on the site.

Whether I learn anything further is currently in question.

I learned not to be influenced by spotty faced IT graduates, who never paid a cent tax, and who think that dexterity and 'mastery' of the tools of communication is the acme of achievement, without ever dwelling on the bedrock of education, spelling and grammar.;)
