    hey guys,

just looking for any info from past/current students on these two courses. what kind of material is covered, job prospects etc.

im an electrician so would be able to apply for 2nd year of both courses. is there any modules from 1st year i'd need to complete. no experience with CAD for example.

    cheers!

    Hi
DT009 has alot more electronics and tougher maths, but you are covering machines, generation and automation, so theres plenty of interesting jobs available.
DT010 is more to do with the building industry, lighting design, cable sizing, fire alarms design etc. So availability of jobs is depending on the construction industry where as dt009 isn't.
Both require ecdl and cad to get advanced entry,dt009 also requires maths and electronics.
If you haven't applied before now unfortunately you wont get a place for this sep!

    I would agree with Noel

Both are level 7 courses in theory, but DT009 is much tougher IMHO. The maths is harder too (speaking from experience). I completed DT009 and found it great. I also did a night course with quite a few of the DT010 people so I have a fair idea of what both courses are like.

PLCs are my thing. With DT009 you have the option of doing quite a bit with them. Although you do PLCs with DT010 it is only to a basic level. Just like our electrical services module, we would not do it in the same detail as the DT010 people would. I think that control and automation is more recession proof.

Many people with DT010 have got great jobs in the past from it, but that was in different times when the building industry was booming.

My advice is to go to one of the DIT open days, meet the students and ask questions.

    Good luck!
