When to take Protein

I've been reading up on this

For weights take it after seems to be the most common approach.

For cardio some people say before some people say after.

I've ordered some gold standard whey just to test it out and see.

My general work out for a week would be as follows

    Monday: Weights - 7am Cardio (10k) 6pm
    Tuesday :Cardio (10k) 7am
    Wednesday: Weights - 7am
    Thursday: Cardio (10k) 7am
    Friday: Weights - 7am Cardio (10k) 6pm

    Weekend - Walks/ Soccer matches

I'm trying to figure out when is the best time to take protein and what should I be taking it for ie weights only or both

I'd be happy enough with current muscle size but maybe leaner and lose weight.

I've updated my diet for more information

Based on what I've read (1g protein per 1lb of mass) I'd need an extra 100g of protein in my diet

    Any feedback?

Most people take protein after working out. It's also pretty handy to take with a meal that would otherwise be low in protein. Your protein intake shouldn't drop on days you're not exercising since your body is still recovering.

Stop thinking about protein as something extra to "take". Its a food macronutrient. Try and include a whole food source of protein in every meal. The best being: eggs, lean meat, cottage cheese and big dirty steaks smothered in butter.

If you are doing this and find you don't have time to eat more protein, have a whey shake before and after you workout.

That's definitely the way that I do it. I actually find eating food a quite enjoyable experience...I try to do it whenever I can.

It doesn't matter....if you are looking for more calories and more protein then milk...if you are taking protein just for the protein then water....water is low carb, low fat...but unfortunately low protein as well.

Ah right, was just wondering since a friend told me you can take it with milk after a workout, fills you up more apparently. Makes sense now when i think about it. Cheers.

If you really wanted to you could tell your friend to just ditch the protein shake all together and just drink chocolate milk...just as effective post workout if not more effective depending on what you are looking to achieve and certainly a lot more effective for your wallet in terms of return on investment.

I do too, the key to this approach is to invent new meals. Like the one between breakfast and brunch. I call it frunch.
