    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone out there has any helpful hints or tips to combat or help with the swelling of every limb after flying. I'm going away in 3 weeks time and already getting p***d off at the thoughts of my rings, clothes and shoes not fitting me properly. I know the heat will be a factor also but I always feel so bloated and have cankles for the duration of my holiday!!! I never drink alcohol on the flight, just plenty of water before and during and don't eat any crap food that would lead to bloating. Last time I took a motilium before we took off but to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

    - Keep moving - at every opportunity get up and wander around the cabin - cabin crew won't like you but who cares! Some airlines also provide little exercises to do - ankle rotations etc, maybe check out some of these?

    - avoid too much salt as it can cause bloating

    - when you're away try elevate the end of your bed for sleeping/sunbathing - should keep the cankles at bay

    - maybe try some herbal remedies such as Waterfalls etc to remove excess water? Best talk to your pharmacist/doctor though

    - wear loose fitting clothing/shoes/socks for the flight

absolutely, and make sure you give your doc a complete picture of what happens

i think they recommend moving every 30 mins, so best sit in an aisle seat

i'd be inclined to look at your salt intake now, and whilst its good to be careful inflight, i'm not sure it would be the dealbreaker causing this

it may help but if you don't get quality as well as quantity sleep, its not going to make a huge difference

have you tried flight socks? you can get different types of these and maybe the ones you have aren't suitable. best to ask for qualified pharmacist's advice here, not a counter assistant

Thanks for your advice and replies. I don't use salt at all and don't eat any processed food which contains it. May just go to the doc and see what they say. Have flight socks from a long haul flight before and never thought of using them for a shorter flight, idiot I am. Thanks again.

if you have flight socks already, maybe you need to get a better pair....it can be hit and miss with finding the ones that work for you.

with cankles, i'm thinking you need better compression flight socks, just a thought

    happy flying!

Ice, plenty of ice. Ice your limbs for twenty minutes as soon as you get the chance. I've had to do it before after a flight and it made a huge difference, and move about as much as possible during the flight and drink plenty of water.
Good luck, it is very unpleasant.
