Netherlands vs Uruguay

Putting this up early as I'm placing my bets now. I really fancy the Dutch here and I think they're a big notch ahead of Uruguay, Can't see them not winning in 90 minutes here. They've been playing decently, Nothing special but getting results regardless. Van Persie has been ineffective as a lone front man but the likes of Snjeider and Robben in the last couple of games have pulled them through. The defense has been excellent bar a couple of mistakes against Brazil, Ooijer played brilliant when he came in but more than likely will be replaced by Mathijsen who has been cleared to play in the game. Van Persie also was doubtful but had a scan on his arm and has also been cleared to play.

Uruguay on the other hand will be missing Luis Suarez through suspension, He'll be a massive miss for them. Jorge Fucile will also miss out due to suspension and he has been playing well for Uruguay in his full back position and whoever takes his place may be up against Arjen Robben who should cause alot of damage if in the same vain as he has shown throughout the games he has featured in. Diego Lugano who is their captain may also miss out he has damaged ligaments in his knee and is their best defender by a long way, Also a big threat when attacking corners and defending them too. He'll be a big miss for them and that could leave them very open at the back, I'm hoping Van Persie is on a going day and can take advantage of likely gaps in the defense with his intelligent runs hopefully causing alot of problems, If they do make the final he'll hopefully have another goal on the slate as his confidence seems to be very low and things haven't went right for him during the tournament so far. I expect he'll be as determined as ever to get his name on the score sheet for only the second time in the tournament.

The Netherlands are unbeaten over 24 games, Their last defeat came nearly 2 years ago when they lost 2-1 to Australia in a friendly. I can't see that record being broken come Tuesday night and I expect The Netherlands to be contesting the final with either Germany or Spain. They've improved the defense ten fold and have only conceded one goal from play in this world cup, The other two were penalties. The last three games they've been involved in have finished 2-1, I'm liking the odds on them to go one better and win 3-1 @ 16/1 with Bet 365. Hoping for lots of goals and an end to end game, Both teams will probably score but I expect the Dutch to be victorious here, Although I'm biased as a big supporter of them and have backed them outright but the least I see happening is them losing the final, They'll hopefully be winning this quite well and going into the final confident on the back of a good victory. Here's hoping anyways! Having one of my biggest bets yet on the Netherlands winning in normal time and numerous other smaller bets.

    Best of luck men.
      10pts - Netherlands to win @ 4/6 (Powers)
      [*]5pts - Van Persie Anytime Scorer @ 13/8 (Coral)
      [*]5pts - Arjen Robben Anytime Scorer @ 2/1 (Powers)
      [*]3pts - Netherlands (-1) @ 15/8 (Bet365)
      [*]1pt - Netherlands to win 3-1 @ 16/1 (Bet365)
      [*]1pt - Arjen Robben first scorer @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes)

It'll be an expensive evening if I'm wrong!

I really think Uruguay will have a go and put it up to the Dutch.
I know they're without Suarez and co. but I'd still say it won't be walkover for the Nedtherlands.

Uruguay are currently 5/1(7/2 DNB) to win in 90 minutes  Certainly worth a flutter in a single or double, I know I'll have a double for sure.

Along with Germany, Uruguay have the best center midfield partnership in Perez and Arevalo in this WC. They've been outstanding in every Uruguay game. They will be all over Sneijder and Robben like a bad rash and I won't be surprised if they negate the Dutch duo to very few chances from open play.

Forlan will play in his best position, up front, now Suarez is suspended and we all know what a quality forward he is. While he did a very admirable job as the craque(classic no.10) he's really their only consistent threat. Forlan to score is 11/4 anytime and 7/2 to score the first for his team!

So there is value with Uruguay to be had. Now whether I think they'll beat Holland... I can't see that admittedly but it's worth having a cheeky punt on Uruguay IMO.

Some bets that caught my eye(excluding the Forlan anytime and 1st goalscorer for Uruguay + Uruguay win) so far:
      • Holland corners (-2.0) @ 6/5 (I really like the look of that :))
      • Over 2.5 Goals & 11 or More Corners @ 9/2
(Gonna wait for the teamsheet to make up my mind on the above or below)
      • Under 2.5 Goals & 11 or More Corners @ 5/2

I wouldnt be going overs on this, might just do the Dutch to win 1-0 tbh.

      Stekelenburg
      Boulahrouz Heitinga Oojer/Mathijsen Van Bronckhorst
      Van Bommel De Zeeuw
      Robben Sneijder Kuyt
      Van Persie
      Muslera
      M.Pereira Godin Lugano/Victorino A. Pereira
      Perez Arevalo
      A. Fernandez Forlan Cavani
      Abreu
if you look at the 2 likely teams you can see theres not much between them, uruguay have a better defence, the 2 holding midfielders from both teams are equal in my eyes, holland do have an edge up front but with van persie very quiet much will depend on robben and sneijder, considering all that i think uruguay at 5.3 in the dnb market is well worth a bet as the 2 teams are closer than the odds suggest

Why is De Jong not listed there ?.

Holland have a far superior defense also.

Damn, Didn't notice that. Cheers BB, I still think they'll have way too much for Uruguay.

I wouldn't be confident backing Netherlands for this, they have only won by a single goal their last 4 world cup matches (Japan, Slovakia, Cameroon, Brazil) and needed Brazil to score an OG to get the result in 90 mins. Scrappy wins against mediocre teams (Denmark, Japan, Cameroon, Slovakia) the whole way. Compare them to Germany who have demolished England 4-0 and Argentina 4-1.

I'm gonna stay clear of this despite the great value available for Uruguay to win in 90 mins or to qualify (7.2 and 4.1 on betfair). Might throw €2 or something on them.

They're not playing germany though, so why would you make that comparrison :P

Because Germany are a convincing side in the world cup who have already proved themselves, Netherlands haven't which is why I'd be cautious gambling on them. Jeez, are you only allowed compare the teams playing against each other on here?

Winning all your games and knocking out the favorites isn't proving yourself ?. Regardless of how they perform they get the job done. You can't beat that, Whereas you can beat Germany, As proved by Serbia who are average personified.

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭Kod-box

lol i agree with you that the odds aen't reflective of the way they have played so far, but Uruguay havent been convincing winners of any of their games either, truth be told they should be on the plane home.

I watched that match and at times Netherlands were very scrappy, Robben was carrying the whole team for a period. If it took an own goal and a disallowed Brazil goal to knock them out then I still am no't convinced.

They were good in the second half though, Solid as a rock. Robben will terrorize they German defense if they meet in the final. He'll be key to Holland KO'ing Uruguay too, Which I think they'll do handy enough, Fucile will be a big miss and Lugano is a big doubt. He's their best defender by a long way.

Plus how did it take a disallowed goal to knock Brazil out ?. It was offside, Usually that means the goal is indeed not a goal.

This would be my predo as well to be honest, although 4/1 is a pretty stingy price. Think Holland will win, but at the same time there's not great value.

Have the Dutch in my sweepstakes so might sit this one out and just cheer for the Holland win

Anyone have any info on the ref for this game yet ?

Might do a double with under 50pts.

I think Netherlands will win,but the odds are nice for them to loose.

Was just looking at the preview a few minutes ago...

      The ref is -
      http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/referees/referee=196867/index.html

He's looked very solid from what I can remember and has let the game flow as much as possible.

I'm currently looking for who Uruguay will play at LB(vs Robben) now Fucile is suspended. I'm fairly sure it will be Alvaro Pereria. Pereria is a LW/LWB.
He is 5/2 to be booked at PP.

He's been lenient enough in his 4 or 5 games so far.

I've went for the following 2 so far

Uruguay v Holland - Holland to win the match
      9 or less corners
      Card Index:Up to and including 45 points @ 5/1

      &

      F Muslera @ 16/1

Uruguay goalie could be under a lot of pressure and if he makes a few vital saves and keeps a clean sheet this could be very nice at 16/1

the odds on a uruguay win are truly astounding

this is a semi final of the wc, they are unbeaten and haven't let in many goals.

there is no value to be had in holland tbh, Im not overly confident of them winning or even getting through.

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Vurnon San Benito

Exactly. 100% agree with the above poster. Uruguay had drifted to 7's at decent bookmakers and are now 6's with Betfair.

I've a funny feeling about them tonight, could well put the Dutch out.
Might put €30 on both teams to score.

Thats what I thought but I couldn't remember for sure and couldn't find the answer online.

The first goal to be scored with a left foot is 7/2 on Ladbrokes. I was on it in Hollands last match and I fancy it again.

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭El Horseboxo

I would have been a lot more confident of a tighter game except for the fact that Uruguay are coming into this game pretty depleted. This is the first time they have had to deal with multiple absences and i'm not sure if they can offer much of what we have seen so far. No Suarez, Lodiero, Fucile and latest reports say Lugano is going to play through injury. It's one thing to play a striker when injured but when you play a defender who is responsible for stopping attacks it's a different story. One lapse of pain could cost a goal. Forlan hasn't been on his usual form in the last two games and there's going to be a lot of pressure for him to take charge today. Even with him on song i think Uruguay will struggle a bit. My bets are going to center around a narrow Dutch win.

50 on Holland to win by one goal @ 3.30 on PP.
50 on Holland to win and Robben to score anytime. Enhanced special on PP @ 4.00.
50 on Perez to be booked @ 2.20 on PP.
50 on both teams to score @ 2.20 on PP.

Might as well blow some of my recent profit. Haven't had a flutter since Sunday.

Yeah unless it's stated as some offer that includes extra time. But i've never seen one of them so take it as just the 90.

I've gone 0-0 HT 6/4.Think the game could be a while opening up and with Suaraz out it might take longer then usual for Uruguay to create clear chances.

Gone for Holland -0.5,-1 on the AH @ 2.00 with Bet365

It's gonna be a very interesting game with key players missing for both sides but I reckon Holland's attacking force with Robben and Sneijder and RVP if he turns up will will finish them off.Van Bommel will have to have a MOTM performance to compensate for the loss of De Jong
