Having bough a set of cdj2000's i am now considering buying the matching mixer and selling the old 800 and efx 1000.What i want to ask is ...is this a wise ? will there be an advantage? and the price ..is it worth it 1999..? or is it all a gimmick to make money.

i would tell anyone buying a mixer to get a pionner, no other is better in my opinion , others may vari. the others usually are people who are happy to settle with substandared equipment. no offence to anyone but ive always had the best gear and it's always payed yanno. in my younger years i ve bought some other substandered gear but it's never lasted and i found myself leaving it in to the menders. I do like the allen and heath stuff but it looks **** i think and years ago i loved the Eclare stuff,i ve always wanted one of them.

I really don't see the need for all the extra capabilities of it. A good mixer like the DJM-800 or A&H Xone:92 / 4D are perfect if you're spending big amounts.

why do you think the 2000's are a gimmick? i am interested to know. I dont find them a bother with the new software and all the new features. i supose there more of a controller than a cd player. I havin put a cd near them since i got them i sep/nov 09 . save s me a fortune on discs and fare more accurite because of that fact.the 1000's were good and served me well for many years but sure look now the 900's are even topping them.

    is this a joke?

Pioneer mixers are decidedly meh. That DJM2000 is probably the ugliest thing I've ever seen.
Oh and btw, 'top name' dj's specify A&H mixers on their riders more than any other make.

    Hi all,

just reading the thread here and yes i think its fair to say we have used a range of mixers form the amazing to the how the fxxk did this crap end up in the booth.

For me, pioneer are a safe bet. i had a djm 500 for nearly a decade (just as it came out around 1998ish) and it served me well. you will still see them in loads of venues and they are workhorses. yes most of them looked battered but never judge a book by its cover. the faders were smooth, eq's tight and had a decent sound. Get them service regularly and you'll have them for a long time.

Allen and Heath are a fanstaic sounding mixer. I remember the sound engineer in redbox telling me years a go that he did have pioneer in the dj box but it didnt sound right, so they got a zone 62 i think, timo maas was on and the sound was amazing.

i used a a+h zone 62 at a venue during the week with a decent soundsystem and i thought it was very clean and crisp. my only thing against the mixer is the little range of led's it has to monitor how loud the next track is. very handy in a dark venue. plus i'm so used to pioneer. They are a club mixer while the pioneer is a jack of all trades - good for mobile work also.

Pioneers new djm 2000 has been built with help by James Zabelia (Hope i spelt his name right). in recent interviews he has done in the dj mag's he says he's constantly getting updates for firmrware improvements on the mixer and hes has a significant say on either it stays or goes. it's a beast of a mixer, like a djm 800 but on steroids. the touch panel will be the big selling point, but most importantly, how long it lasts and how much punishment it can take.

Most mixers nowadays have to have something to do with effects / have a usb / be traktor or serato certified etc to sell them. plus if you buy one and then upgrade later, the more features you have on your old mixer the better and the easier to move it on. If you speak to jocks years ago they would have a mixer that would last them a long time. most of them would only upgrade out of necessity.

Nowadays, it is a bit like keeping up with the joneses

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,373 ✭✭✭Executive Steve

Well, 99% of the time if you're playing out you're going to end up using a DJM800 or perhaps a 600, so it's worth your while owning a pioneer just so you can learn how bad the EQ shelf is and how inaccurate the signal LED's are.

There's no point buying a DJM2000 because nowhere will have them installed yet, and presumably if you're posting on Boards.ie you're not in much of a position to demand a venue have one to hand in the Tech rider of your contract

    :pac:

hello to all :) this tread is very relevant to myself as i am in the same position as noelo, im goin to buy the djm 2000 and 2 cdj 2000's...thats 5300e which is crazy considering it will be in my bedroom for 90% of the time when im not djing parties and functions...the only reason im hell bent on getting it is simply i want the best i can get...ive never used another brand of mixer and i still have the 600 and 800 ( soon to be sold) and also the exf 1000 which ive used only about 2hrs since ive bought it....i think if you want ther best get the 2000...with all due respect never mind if clubs havent got it, who cares? you will be still able to use whatever they have if you worth your weight....my main fear is that pioneer possibly have missed a beat with this mixer and it doesnt sell and is remembered as a disaster...i dont know what im goin to make of the touch screen and the wide gap between the 2nd and third channel...but im going to go for it and hopefully its know as the best for a few years just like the 800....ny hows il have it n a wk r 2 n if ny 1 wants to have a spin on it just gis a shout n a fiver :P haha

    You're dead right!
I'll be buying two pioneer 2000's, and two new CDJ's. I have an xone:92 at home that I've never used, but I want the best I can get. I know they'll spend 90% of the time in my bedroom too, but who cares.
It doesnt matter to me whether the clubs have them or not, because I've no interest in actually using the equipment in a club situation anyway.

A bit like yea.so would it be pioneer, A&H, software, or something else? there seems to be quit a lot of mixed reactions.

You don't need to spend a fortune on gear-to be honest you are better off investing in good tunes-there's a few good threads about getting different controllers and laptops and so on here-money may get you the kit but getting out and playing tunes in front of a crowd and learning your craft that way takes time, patience and (a bit of arrogance tbh)
Try mixing on differnt media-vinyl,cd's mp3's at mates parties and see what suits
failing that just buy the expensive turntable, coz at least it will sound great ;)

to be honest unless you are in some custom club, pioneers are fine, personally allen and heath do nice mixers, depends what you want the mixer for-playing at parties or messing at home most mixers are fine-UREI rotary mixers are tricky but have a great sound off them
