Anybody getting email spam from Crunch Fitness in UCD. They have my personal email address which is not visible on the web (AFAIK). I'm sick of them spamming me. i never go near fitness stuff or anything remotely connected to their business.

all i can say man is mark the email as spam and it should block it, you'd be surprised how easy it is to get stuck on these stupid lists, have rakes of spam mails and can't figure out how.

I tend to ignore spam on the basis that I don't want to prove to the spammers that my email address is 'live' (being read), which might only encourage them. Or I set up a filter to send it straight to trash.

But if it's just one specific company, you could try directly asking them to stop. Is it marketing stuff, or just general fitness blah blah 'advice' emails? If it's marketing and they don't stop when you ask them to, they're in breach of legislation, which was beefed up last year. In your communication with them, you could quote the legislation to give your request to stop more impact.

If the emails keep coming after you've asked them to stop, then you can report them to the data protection commissioner.

See the press release here for more info.
    The legislation itself is here.

Did you ever write your email on any of the clubs lists at the sports expo?

From personal experience, a good number of years ago a person approached me at the sports expo and offered me a free membership if I handed over a copy of all a clubs members email addresses. I thought it was bang out of order and declined but I would say some clubs may have taken advantage.
