BTW this will make or break Range Rover, there's no going back from this. They have spent a fortune in development, now if Topgear get a hold of one during the current series and dislike it, well those 1000 jobs in Liverpool won't happen.

I like it though, first prototype I've seen come out of RR to look like the real thing. Low C02 means it will sell well, a lot depends on the RRP

Don't worry, I was only messing, there was an embargo on breaking the news early so all the motor press were on it like flies. At least I was first on Twitter lol

Do folks that can afford one really give a feck what TopGear think of anything ?

Topgear are filming at the moment so they are the only ones who could review it for TV.

Never said I was motoring press

They really should of used the show name which they had for the RangeRover Sport when it was launched.

The 'Range Stormer', far nicer but the american marketing people said no as the customers would of thought it was completely different to the Range Rover. Still I think its a nice car

I think its a huge step forward from the current over sized box. Top gear will like it too because it is British although their review will simply state a few dislikes.

I like it and 1000 jobs for Mersyside is brilliant. Its gonna be a big seller imo.

Morning guys, interesting to see the initial reactions here (I work for JLR). Surprised to see so many negative comments to be honest!

Its VW Golf sized, although small for a RR it has to be done - its all about downsizing and reducing CO2 emissions at the moment and is the only way the brand can remain sustainable.

I've seen the production versions in the flesh (inside and out) and been lucky enough to drive one of the development mules. I think its very cool really.......except for the name that is!

They should focus on build quality as well as the obvious aesthetics this time round. The RRS is shyte in in the former and I reckon it put a lot of potential repeat buyers off. Certainly did me.

I think it looks nice, I never liked the large empty shell SUVs, but then again, I have no reason to drive off road, so I am not really qualified to comment I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,400 ✭✭✭✭r3nu4l

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on the fact that there will be front-wheel drive version!

That is what really shows you what market they are aiming for. This model is purely for the aspiring wannabe WAGS and the school-run yummy mummies imo. (not that there's anything wrong with that, it just seems to be the market they are aiming for).

That said, I do hope it sells well, 1000 new jobs anywhere is not to be sniffed at. :)

i like it, but i am weirdo...

why 2 door btw? i thinks its really fail design... where will english footballers put theyr whores...

Ah there will be AWD as well, but definitely an FWD model too. To top it all for you petrolheads, the FWD will be a Diesel :D

ah an FWD tractor :D. thought if you buying range rover, wount you be going for best model? i havent seen much of s-class mers with basic trim... thought i can bet i would see one in ireland...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Mr.David

Also, 4WD and FWD. Makes sense really, although FWD doesnt make a 'proper' off road vehicle it is cheaper, lighter, less complex, results in lower CO2 etc etc and the majority of Evoques will never see a muddy path let alone full off roading.

From what I've seen you can expect a very high degree of personalisation to be available on the car.

In terms of competitors, its not really meant as an alternative to a FWD softroader (thats the Freelander market). Its more of a fashion vehicle, think alternative to stuff like Scirroco, mini cooper etc as well as BMW X1 obviously.

That's the case with most SUVs IMO, it's just that the lower end of the market is price/economy sensitive enough to make FWD versions viable.

I really like the look of that, and a Range Rover with road tax of €156 a year is going to appeal to a lot of people - as long as the pricing is right.

Mr. David - what does it handle like? Is it as wooly as an off roader, or will it have some form of road holding? Centre of gravity doesn't look that high and the track looks fairly wide, so there is a chance it might handle somewhat like a car.

So is this replacing the current range rover or just another addition to the range? Sorry if already asked, didnt get a chance to read the article..

Its a lot smaller so anyone with a horse box wont be buying it I'd say.. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,445 ✭✭✭Absurdum

I don't personally like it but I can see the appeal. The front looks good, not sure about the rear end though. There is a huge market out there for it, and I've no doubt it'll be a success, possibly at the expense of the FFRR.

I like it. I think you described it well Mr David when you called it a fashion vehicle. It's slick and stylish and not intended for any off roading I would imagine...

With the added bonus that it will create 1,000 jobs: evoque = winner

Well i do like the looks of it, but will it stay nice after adding two more doors? Honda crv looks cool in 2door, but 4door version looks fugly...

Completely disagree, I think the HRV (which is the one I think you mean) is horrible in two door! Wayy too long...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 514 ✭✭✭Michael 09

Although similar in basic shape, I think the Evoque will be a couple of leagues ahead of the HRV! I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh...

Also based on the amount of boring and generic looking cars being released lately (e.g. Lexus that was on here) I think it's good to see JLR trying something new and a bit more edgey.

Yeah, I doubt if that is going to be their only model, coupe offroader is going to appeal to a tiny audience I'd say.

Personally if I had 50k to spend, I wouldnt buy this in a fit. But a yummy mummy might think she would look cool, until she had to get Tarquin into his child seat in the back seat.

no no. this is an all new model expanding the Range Rover line-up to smaller vehicles.

I hate it, but there's no denying that it is utterly pimptastic. Are they aiming to take on the cayenne in the states or what?

no no. two different classes. More like Audi's Q5 and the rumored small SUV by Porsche.

Don't forget the Evoque is a lot smaller than the Cayenne, wayyyy nicer to look at too. The mention of the sub 130CO2 means €156 tax per year, if they price it right it will be taking on the crossover 4x4 school mammy runners, a range rover for us poor people maybe?

I really liked the design since the concept, but I'm not so sure now, that lauch video with people standing beside it shows that it is actually a really small car. So it seems like it will be style over substance and practicality. Will there even be a 5 door version? I'd hoped it was more freelander sized.

Having said that it's nice to see something new on the road with a bit more design thought.

my thinking too, it being a range rover and seeing ordinary sized people significantly taller than it = does not compute.

They look like they would be really small doors at the back, tiny windows definitely, probably just as well because looking at that roof it looks like only kids could get in the back.
