So big now we get our own annual thread!

Fairwell previous 3 and a half year old thread. You served us admirably.

    I liked the old thread

I fully expect there to be a raft of conversation in this thread over the course of the season. Citeh are bona fide candidates for a Top 4 shot this year and while I think they're still 1-2 seasons away from genuinely challenging for the league I'd be surprised if they weren't a hot topic all season.

I'll try not to troll though :D

    That it all falls apart??

Every season since Erikson has been the season.

We'll get to see what Mancini is made of now though. Roll on spurs.

New jersey is a no from me anyway.

    Roll on August.

I also preferred last seasons top too.

Silva providing bullets for Tevez should be pretty decent.

Have to admit I am excited, we have just signed a winger who gets his game in the greatest midfield in international football and also with Toure we have just signed a midfielder who regularly got his game in the greatest midfield in club football.

Just wish he would start picking Stephen Ireland again. Looks like he is off though. No idea what kind of formation Roberto will be playing now, or who will be playing come to think of it.

I would like to see Adebayor and Barry moved on too.

Why?? The more quality we have the better, they've only had one season.

We need a left back I reckon, after that I think we're fairly sorted.

Any left backs linked with us?

Yiz just signed Boateng last week why would you need another LB on top on him and Bridge?

He is primarily a right back I think.

Yeah I thought Baoteng was a RB/CB too and Bridge is the reason we need another LB.

Surely Boateng has been signed primarly as a centre half, 6ft 4 almost and sticking him out on the wing? I know he's playing there for Germany but surely only cause Badstubber was gettin rode!.. I reckon we still need cover for left back.. Bridge was very poor for alot of last year.. Adebayor did nothing last year outside the first month of the season to convince me why he's good enough to stay, but still i'd like to see him there... On his day he's more than a handfull..

so what kind of lineup do you guys expect next season?

    ..................................................Given/Hart

    Richards/Zabaleta.....K.Touré/Kompany.............Boateng/Lescott.......Bridge/New LB?

    ................................De Jong(Viera).............Y.Toure/Barry

    Silva(SWP)...................................Tevez(Ireland)............................Bellamy/Johnson

    ....................................................Adebayor

backup/ maybe sold: Jô, Nedum Onuoha, Michael Johnson, Roque Santa Cruz, Felipe Caicedo, Valeri Bojinov etc... obviously Ireland or someone could be sold too if they want out but in his case as the manager id be reluctant to let him go as unlike in other positions (most notably upfront) they dont actually have a rake of players that can play as a central attacking midfielder.

() = backup not competing or rotating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

Johnson was most played on the right last season so I don't understand why he would change that?

To the best of my knowledge, Silva generally played on the left in Spain also?

I imagine that Bellamy will be moving on too?

Kolarov looks likely to team up with Mancini again after looking destined for Real*

    * edit: just realised they werent in Lazio together :o

whoops my mistake and oddly i actually know that but was just throwing that up to illustrate the options available to them atm + signings which are strongly linked/expected.

Kolarov would be a good signing from what i know of him and LB/RB are the two spots i think need the most improvement now

David Platt?? Isn't he a pundit?

Lots of people thinking this formation but i think u have to ave Tevez up top on his own, proves he can score more up there... Ade dropped if we're going to play that formation for me with Ireland in the hole!

    Yaya done deal

 (this is me not knowing how to feel about it)

    http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/2010/July/Manchester-City-sign-Yaya-Toure
Manchester City have secured the signing of Yaya Toure on a five-year deal from Barcelona.

The Ivory Coast international midfielder returned from World Cup duty on Monday following the African side’s exit from the tournament.

Toure has completed a medical with City physios in Spain and also finalised the details of his switch from the Spanish Champions.

The 28-year-old is one of the World’s most coveted midfield players. Signed in the summer of 2007, Toure has since enjoyed a decorated three-year spell at the Nou Camp. He picked up a Champions League winner’s medal in 2009, when he played in the 1-0 final victory over Manchester United. He was also a regular in Barca’s 2008/09 and 2009/10 La Liga title winning sides.

Coming off the back of Wednesday’s announcement of the signing of Valencia forward David Silva, manager Roberto Mancini was delighted to also secure the services of Toure. He said: “This is another fantastic signing for Manchester City, and I am very pleased Yaya has joined us, he is a very good player.

“Everyone knows Yaya is a player that we have admired for a long time, and we would like to welcome him to Manchester City. He has played at the top level with Barcelona and I am sure he his experience and ability will be very important for us.”

He will now enjoy a three-week holiday following Ivory Coast’s exit from the World Cup, before joining up with his new team-mates, including elder brother Kolo, for the forthcoming tour to the United States of America.

He is an amazing signing and will tear the premiership asunder. Class player, very versatile. Gutted he is leaving Barca. I would like to kick his agent where it hurts bad.

I'm a little underwhelmed tbh, mainly because I love De Jong and don't want him replaced by anyone.

Another statement of intent though I guess.

My sentiments exactly.Although on the other hand competition for places can be healthy, especially with a hopefully long run in the Europa League

In other news Javan Vidal has signed a new 1yr contract

I think we'll play both, similar to the formation posted on the previous page. We need a attacking centre midlfielder now though, someone to play ahead of De Jong and Yaya. Someone called Stephen maybe.

That's 3 players we've brought in now, if he gets in many more I can see it taking a while to gel, much like last season tbh.

I don't think he'd have to replace De Jong, Yaya was played as a DM at Barca but he is perfectly capable of playing a box to box role.

    De Jong

    Toure
    Ireland
    Johnson
    Silva
    Tevez

Would be an awesome team tbf.

And you'd still have the likes of Ade, SWP, Bellers, Barry etc on the bench.

Brilliant signing, Yaya is a world class player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭Stacksey

Its just getting ridicilous with all these iminent signings, Yaya Toure is so over rated its not funny, I think at best they finish 5th this season, does the manager not realise he can only play 11 players on the pitch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

2 world class players in Silva and Toure is hardly ridiculous.

Squad game these days you need more then 11 players if u want to win things in fairness

Yaya is a great player, and a quality signing for them - wish United had been able to get him (and Silva). SO jealous!

Silva is not world class, he's a good player at most who cant get in the spain starting lineup(i know someone's going to say the same for fabregas but he is not 100% fit)

Silva was dropped by Del Bosque BECAUSE he set up his transfer during the World Cup. Nothing to do with his ability.

No different to what any other club would try to do if they had the same funds.
