Overheard airsoft skirmishers and hunters get fairly fanitical when discussing boots in the past.

Where do people here tend to buy their boots and what
is the most popular and practical for a days skirmishing ?

Had my eye on a pair of Magnum Elite Spider 8.0's and
a few orther varients, But was not sure how light they were or just how good they let your skin breathe.

I'd like to get me a pair of boots that are light and comfortable and most importantly let the feet breathe a lot.
(the days of wearing old german army boots are well and truely over)

I've problems with my feet the last few years between
ingrown toe nails, gout, swelling, and a skin irratation that flares up when my feet overheat which makes me tear the skin from my foot when I sleep. Ideally for me comfort and keeping the feet cool would be an important factor.

I'm a big fan of Bates boots, the desert and lightweight versions are ideal for hot weather and they are really comfortable and hard wearing. To be honest I find them as comfortable as shoes. I've bought mine from CopShoes.com and Quanticoboot.com.

magnum have dis-continued the current spider line and are re-desigining the boot, and increasing the price, and for the money of the new boot you could get the meindel eagle (black) or the deasert fox (tan), which are a far superier boot im my opinion!

If you've problems with your feet overheating bullets; I might recommend some British army issue dessie boots.

Link. From the list there; I've a pair of surplus padded dessie boots. They are not waterproof (hello? desert?) but they are breathable.

Magnums seem to be a popular and cheap choice for most skirmishers as well; although if you intend doing longer events (like 24 hour millsim), it might do to invest in a good pair of boots (I use Miendel Eagles, which are also gortex). Look after your feet and they'll look after you!

    Hey Bullets,

I don't know much about boots, but I know a good bit about feet, and how to look after 'em. Feel free to PM me at any time...I'd be happy to help where I can.

Had to take the Magnum videos I watched about the ION process where they stick the boots
into what looks like a Plasma chamber mixed with a microwave with a pinch of salt :-)

Have worn boots for years, used to wear knee high new rocks so weight never bothered me until I stopped and started wearing casual shoes. Now I dont fancy going back walking about like Herman Munster.

I got to start excercising too to get the blood pressure down so whatever boots I buy I would like to be able to go walking in them as well as use them from Airsofting and if I'm out the country side shooting clays etc.

Must check out those brands ye mentioned as Have not heard of them before.

    Thanks,

Been through the wars with the feet and neglected an infection for too long as like a typical male did not go to the doctor until I was forced to. He sent me down to the
Hospital and they would not leave me back out for a few days and strapped me up to an IV of antibiotics.

Had my left toe operated on a few years back, getting
the right big toe done in Sept. The skin irrataion I had first
thought was athetles foot and put cream on it which reacted and caused the foot to start to weep and a rash.
Was given Hydromol to soak my feet in which is brilliant
stuff, calms everything right down and the foot is healing well.

I'll be treating myself to a nice good pair of boots when I make the purchase.

Be barefoot as much as you can, especially in your house. It helps strengthen the arches, and develops dexterity with the toes and tharsils. It also has the added bonus of toughening up the skin, which makes it more resililiant. If I remember to, I'll dig up some articles about it for you.

Glad to hear you're on the mend - feet are precious things. Most people don't realise how precious, until the pain migrates to their back :D

cant say a bad word about the magnum elite 900s ,ive had my pair of 4 years as both a walking .working boot to skirmishing ,
there is offiicaly 2 verions of the elite 900 boot
the standard leather boot ,water proof and thinsulated cosy but can get heavy when its hot,

the sypatex and leather version lighter than the full leather, waterproof light weight very comfortable in all conditions ,i love this version been knee deep in water ar various sites and my feet stay dry and warm,

there was a re-design last year where they replace the tyre like sole with a vibram sole more akin to walking /hiking boots , on sale in dublin for 89euro mine cost 140e original money well spent,

you can find the new ION mask versions on

As much as a military boot looks appealing
Those boots look pretty darn comfortable and
something you could also wear causally too.

Damn I'm spoiled for choices now. (A good complaint)

Very nice boots. Made by Adidas, and very comfortable. Got a pair second hand off boards here and they are brilliant. They are literally as confortable as wearing runners, but provide support and proctection for your feet. A great pair of boots

    Interesting thread.

I'm in the hunt for boots myself, my two year old Magnums are at their end really, although id say ill still get the summer out of them they are starting to break apart.

I got those on the epic cheap from adverts, but I was shocked when I looked at the price of boots.

    All over €100 :O

Bit shocking really when waterproof isn't as standard and the materials are not very breathable.

Have to take me time with this one, as much as boots are probably regarded as an essential good purchase, I personally have not felt the benefit of using a brand name like Magnum, going on from An Post issue boots, which are designed for comfort, durability and kicking dogs.

I was stoked after a visit to Chandon market in London got a class pair of the new German boots had them in Sennybridge ...great and I've been wearing them since and just spotted a rip right down the outer side of the leather right at the edge where they meet the sole, brought them to a menders no joy can't be fixed.

Magnums shredded after one winter, I think I've spent more on boots than AEG's ......

    boots are a bitch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

one winter from magums , pretty bad what version ,

boots tend to be fickle though i love the look of the tan magnum spiders ,the black version look cheap the webbing or something ,

Adidas gsg9 boots nice if you can find them ,

converse that were all the rage 2 -3 years ok ,only came with zips dont like zipped boots,

anyone seen the Nike combat desert boots ,same sole as a pair of airmax

Han wag come recommended decent pair costing around 180e there a short boot, some millets were doing them for around 110e

I got a pair of Adidas GSG 9.2s from Gladstone Boots in the UK

    http://www.gladstoneboots.com/acatalog/Three_quarter_length_Boots.html

As said previously they are hard to come by and pretty pricey but they are very comfortable, not sure how durable they are in the long run but I guess there is always a compromise to be made somewhere.

As far as I'm concerned, Lowa Combat GTX are the daddy of military boots. "Rugged & robust" would be an understatement. They take serious amounts of abuse and have great shock absorption. I'm on my second pair now. I only threw my 1st pair away as the outside of them was pretty much destroyed ( after zero TLC and a LOT of HEAVY abuse ). Yet they were still waterproof and the sole / heel hadn't worn away much.
You pay for the privilege though. And they're not what I'd call lightweight by a long shot.

Most comfortable I've worn are my Converse Warrior desert boots ( also available in black ). They're lightweight, very breathable and comfortable. They also contain no metal and have a side zip, which is great for airports!
    They aren't waterproof though.

I've used Magnum Elites. I had 2 pairs of the original model. Both lasted about 2 years max and then the soles started to split from the upper at the heel, letting in water. I know 2 other people this happend to, so it seems to be a design weakness. Can't comment on the Magnum Elite II as I've never used them, but I'd guess the heel weakness was one of the things that was revised for the new model.
They were pretty comfy from what I remember so were pretty good value for money considering that they were lightweight and waterproof.

I also own a pair of the Oakley 6" SI assault boots. They were very cheap and they're lightweight, but not great for skirmishing in. They're not waterproof and the tread / grip on them is terrible on hard wet surfaces. The shock absorption on them is bad too. Very much style over performance.

Although I've no experience with them myself, I've heard the Blackhawk Warrior-Wear light assault boot is extremely lightweight and breathable. Not waterproof, but it is, apparently, exceptionally quick-drying. Available in desert or black.

was in protac today they are doing watherproof magnums for €95, reduced from €150.
the problem IMO with magnums are they only last a year with constant use after that they fail in epic proportions.

I just ordered a pair of these. Only 5 sizes available, though.

If they're comfortable and they last a couple of years I'll be happy. Can't beat 40 USD (I had a coupon for another $10 off) for a pair of brand new boots.

I bought a pair of Danner USMC Hot Weather boots from Patriot Surplus last year, they're good to deal with and the boots are great. I probably should have got a 10 instead of a 9.5 but it just limits what socks I wear with them.

These are brand new, surplus, still in the box combat boots. These are the former official issue boots made in America, not overseas. The boots were made for our combat forces to U.S. milspecs. Are you seeking a top quality boot for a great price? These black combat boots are the perfect choice. Because these are US Made boots, they are constructed to a higher standard than foreign manufactured boots.

This boot is identical to the Altama 7852 which retails for $100.00 or more. Don't pass on this deal!

    Made with top grain leather
Laces are designed to tighten with a quick pull from the top.
    Removable insole.
    One piece vulcanized lug sole.
    Ten inches tall.
    Mildew and water resistant.
Manufactured in the United States of America by either Wellco or McRae Footwear.

Lowa are the dogs. 53 degrees north have the civilian version of the GTX and mountain boot. Both excellent.

Meindl Army Gore used to be availible in the great outdoors, expensive and lasted only 2 weeks out on the ground up in the glen....for such a costly item.....not good. Plus they induced friction burns....not blisters....but actual burns on the balls of the feet making it painful at first and then nearly impossible to walk in them or anything else after 2-3 days of constant use. Nightmare.

the most important thing is to get a pair that suit you everybody here seems to love theirs and they all have different boots. your feet are very different and the right boot fot you is not always the right for someone else. so my advise is to pick a few pairs try them on and don't make a decision until you are sure.
