Looking to get into powerlifting, particulary in a club dedicated to it. Have trawled online and not come up with much.

Could someone give me a hand please?

http://herculesclub.ie/Welcome.html for all your powerlifting needs.

EDIT: Heh.. just realised my 2nd squat from the 2007 nationals champs is still the "squat" pic on the PL page.

85 (could be 90?) per quarter w/ a 25 (I think) once off joining fee in the first quarter. Comes in at like 365-385 for the year.

Yup, think it was his first 500lb pull too - it's from the 2006 WDPF World Champs in Kinsale.

That's his oul lad in the bench pic too hitting 220kg @ 100 as well actually.

If your on the southside they've just opened a powerlifting and oly lifting gym in Bray. It's a cracking setup with 4-5 platforms, 4 hammer strength power racks and dumbbells up to about 60 or 70 I think.

    where abouts in bray? website?

I don't think the lads have opened up yet actually - it's a new Club, East Coast Barbell, it'll be a members' club very similar to the way Hercs is run. No website up yet, hopefully I'll have more info soon.

Raging that it's gonna be so far away from me. Sounds like it'll be awesome.

    Fairly close to me.....
In fact if its near the Dart I might be in danger of becoming a proper lifter.

ha ha Bray's a big place, if it's at the ass-end of the town you're looking at a 30+ min walk from the Dart

it sounds really good though, it'd be nice to have a more precise location

    I know.
That would be why I said "if its near the Dart"

I don't think it will be tbh - the way the guys were describing it it seems to be just outside Bray on the Dublin side, which would make it a reasonable walk from the DART. But I haven't been there yet so can't say for sure...

Does anyone have contact details for east coast barbell? A name and email address maybe??

I am very interested in becoming a member.

What would be the secondary exercises best suited to do with each of the big three?

Gona be doin muay thai couple of days a wek so that should cover cardio!

    Thanks for the help.

Had a look in hercs today, it hardcore to say the least! Im gona stick in my gym and learn the basics. When I improve and start shifting real weight il move to hercules!

No need to wait till your movin big weights to join herc's, there's plenty of people there tat are just startin out. As for a 'powerliftin program' hav a look at 'wendler 531'

Might be better off hitting Hercs if its an option.
You will have the opportunity to train around/with people who have experience with the lifts. This presents the opportunity to ask questions and or even get these guys to look at your lifts. Which in turn help you to learn the basics better.

I'm thinking of checking out the Hercules gym sometime soon. I'm trying to increase my strength as much as I can, but I'd like to increase my technique also. I'm doing fairly weak lifts at the moment on my core apart from dead-lifting.So I want to improve on everything basically.

Would I be able to get coaching in there at all?

Hercs is a bit of a hike at the moment so tomorrow im going to Raw in portobello!

Was a member there before so I know they well kitted out!

Im sure they will have guys involved in powerlifting there.

Dieing to start training again, aw yeesh! :D

your not goin to get coaching as such, best bet is to join and talk to someone doin any of the big 3 wit big weights and ask them to check ur form etc. hopefully they know wat there talking about :o

Ah right. I'll just stick to my own place and keep at it so. May as well keep trying to get it right where I am than move to somewhere new with the same old habits.

    Cheers for the reply Dave.
