What's your summer viewing?

This pops up every Summer.. pretty self explanatory question really - while the bigger shows are in their "off-season", are you watching anything / playing catch-up on any series?

I started watching Doctor Who from 2005 onwards (the Eccleston / Tennant / Smith era) and I'm just starting season 4. I'm absolutely loving it!

Every time I saw it was on, I sat back and grimaced at how ludicrous it all looked and insulted it on every chance I got. But christ, how wrong I was? It's absolutely fantastic stuff.

i'm catching up on Stargate SG1, got the first 3 seasons, only cos i started watching SG Universe last september, and loved it. sadly SG1 isn't as good as it.

also watching the current season of true blood. it's off to a strong start.

i'm rewatching Lost from the start. now that it's finished, i'm going to look back and try to understand it better, and hope that the writers did have it planned out....hoping :D

not much else on during the summer tbh.

Catching up on Caprica, have it all recorded on the UPC box, slowly getting through it. Have The Pacific and Flashforward recorded aswell.

Both of these are on hold until the World Cup is over though :p

Plan on watching True Blood and have some Dexter to watch aswell.

Definitely plan to do this at some stage - man I'd love to have the Lost part of my brain wiped so I could watch it again anew!

+1 on Doctor Who - I always thought it was for kids but when I sat down and watched it I was hooked.

As for myself, I'm watching Harper's Island and Modern Family at the mo.

Doctor Who is a damn good show. Basquille - Season 5 will blow your mind. You will rarely see a better run of episodes in any show. You're in for a treat.

I'm thinking of trying True Blood again (got as far as episode 4 or 5 in season 1 before getting bored). I have boxset with 112 hours of The West Wing taunting me from where I sit, and I have to catch up on House, The Mentalist and Castle.

    Decisions decisions.

    Football! :p

I don't do the DVD box set thing. I don't even know what new series are on that I'd watch apart from Top Gear and Rev on BBC2 (both worth watching)

Yep, have heard Season 5 is superb. Think I'll be somewhat happy to see the back of Russell T Davies.

Go with True Blood Dave.. I think most people were ready to give up early in Season 1 (myself included) but it's turned into an absolutely superb show.

I'm watching True Blood week by week but am seeking out a new tv show. I might re-acquaint myself with my guilty pleasure The Nanny but with something more serious like The West Wing

Just make sure to stick with it.

Most people I know lost interest and stopped watching mid-way through season 3, whereas season 4 is just incredible from start-to-finish.

Sons of Anarchy, have to get season 2. True Blood, season 2, have to get season 3. Will start on Breaking Bad I think.

Finishing the last season and a half of Stargate Atlantis, series 2 and 3 of Arrested Development, and gonna start Battlestar Galactica after Stargate Atlantis...
Also keeping up with season 3 of True Blood...
Gonna re-watch Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dark Angel once I'm done with all of them...

I have the West Wing Box set waiting for me, have just finished Breaking Bad S3 and am now on to Mad Men S3. At some point I'll get to Heroes S4, just to see it out and S9 Smallville - I wish it would just end so I can be put out of my misery!
then watching True Blood, Entourage and Burn Notice from week to week.
After that it should be time for Dexter to start...

As they air: Burn Notice, True Blood, Rescue Me, Entourage, Penn & Teller, Futurama (and soon: Eureka).

Others: Warehouse 13, Oz (Season 3), Spartacus: Blood & Sand, The Practice.

And - of course - Doctor Who, working through all the episodes. Currently on Season 7 which is a very strong season. For those who've been watching since Season 27 (yes, that's 27 and not Season 1!!), the season has already introduced both the Autons and the Silurians. It's definitely the most adult and intelligent season so far. If you are catching some of the older episodes, Season 7 is a very good place to start.

Got through all of Chuck, Cosmos, Penn and Teller: Bull**** so far. Still watching The Colbert Report. Want to get through The Sopranos, Oz and Curb Your Enthusiasm before my repeat exams.
I'm sure I've watched something else and can't remember. :P Getting through some anime as well.

Totally agree on the numbering of seasons in Doctor Who...

Oz is amazing... Watched it all a couple of years ago - must rewatch it soon, gonna save up for the season 1-6 boxset... It's one of the greatest shows of all time - it should be held in the same high regard as The Wire and The Sopranos, but for some reason its quite unknown and underrated...

Basq you (and any other new converts to Dr Who) should check out the Torchwood Children of Earth mini serial that ran over 5 nights on BBC last year. Absolutely brilliant stuff. I've seen bits and pieces of Torchwood but was never impressed enough to watch it properly but that mini series was amazing.

I'm watching The Shield at the moment. Halfway through S3 and it is excellent. I want to catch up on the last series of Entourage and watch the last couple of series of Lost. Also I'm a couple of series behind Curb Your Enthusiasm and I have the boxset of the last season of Six Feet Under to watch for the first time as well.

And I'm watching the current series of True Blood too and I want to watch The Pacific and Breaking Bad. Oh and Dexter after series 1.

I will never get through all of that!

After reading this I'm tempted to get Doctor Who, but at the same time I really don't want to! I do need something new to watch. Haven't seen Harpers Island/Firefly/Caprica to name a few mentioned that I haven't already watched.

Think I might get Caprica, watched all off BSG recently enough and loved it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,973 ✭✭✭Cherry_Cola

I'm also working my way through The Shield at the moment and I'm loving it! Got all 7 seasons for €5 each in Gamestop as an impulse buy and so glad I did!

I'm also watching a load of episodes of Scare Tactics at the moment, love that show!

I'll be starting these pretty soon as well:
    True Blood
    Spartacus Blood and Sand
    Rome
    Haven
    Happy Town
    X-Files

I'd definately give Hapers Island a go, its not great by any stretch of the imagination but it does have a very watchable supporting cast,eg. harry hamilton, Jim Beaver and Callum Keith Rennie[who you most definately should be a fan of if you've seen BSG :D].

Haven't watched any of Caprica yet because I haven't seen BSG, so can't comment on that...
I'd definitely recomment Firefly and Doctor Who over Harper's Island...
I watched all of Harper's Island, but its a really poor show in comparison to anything else that has been mentioned... By all means watch it, but if you're trying to decide which to watch first, I'd recommend Firefly, Doctor Who or Caprica over Harper's Island...

Lie to Me - Not that great a show but I thought I'd give it another go.
    True Blood
    The Good Guys
Also trying to catch up with Criminal Minds but I find it kind of tedius.
I have to watch season 3 and 4 of Dexter.
I've watched all of Stargate SG1 and Firefly which I thought both were pretty decent shows. Especially Firefly. Its a shame it got cancelled.
I'm going to look out for Haven which I think plays here on the 9th or the 12th can't remember.
I'd love to watch more of Doctor Who. I think I watched the first two seasons.

I've just started on Season 1.

Was interrupted during the first episode. Not really feeling it yet tbh, but I'll give it a few episodes at least until I make any drastic life altering decisions about it. After all, I wouldn't want to disqualify myself from ever forming a coalition with the newly elected mayor of Reykjavik. Since the "big" shows finished, I've watched Breaking Bad from the start. I also have my daily dose of John Stewart and there's been the odd new episode of "Dan for Mayor" aired.

I've caught the odd documentary as well. Will watch Gasland when I get a chance.

Wasn't saying that its anywhere near the quality of Firefly or Doctor Who[although some of them RTD episodes :p ] , just a decent watch.
I'd maybe give Torchwood a watch as well, the first season is mostly terrible with brief good moments, second season is average, but the the third season is incredible stuff.

Since the start of the summer break I've watched:
Justified Season 1 which is worth watching. Nothing mind blowing but a solid show.
The West Wing Seasons 1-3. This was on my 'to watch' list for ages and I'm glad I've finally gotten around to it. Excellent, excellent show and I'm hooked.
Bits and pieces of other stuff that I didn't really get into in a big way.

Waiting for Weeds to start back up so I can salivate while watching Mary Louise-Parker. :p
Going to complete all 7 seasons of The West Wing but, at the rate I'm watching it, that shouldn't take too long!
Been meaning to watch The Shield so might start on that, undecided at the moment.
Having watched Justified I might give Deadwood a go which is something I've never seen an episode of. Anyone recommend or ward me off?

    Just Shoot Me (all seasons).
    The Wire (all seasons)
    True Blood (Season 2)
    Chuck (Season 2)
    Burn Notice (Season 2 onwards)
    Breaking Bad (Season 2 onwards)
    Caprica
    Ugly Betty (Season 4)

    Spartacus
    Persons Unknown
    The Gates
    Southland
    Human Target

Caprica was a disappointment for me. The main teen character needed a good kick up the arse. And it is very, very slow moving. And the 1950s style just reminded me of a bad episode of Star Trek TNG when they get trapped in the Holodecks.

I missed 6 weeks of my normal tv schedule, thus i am still making my way through it. Today i watched the final four eps. of Trauma and the final five eps. of The Big Bang Theory.

Still have to watch Two & A half Men/Spartacus (final 3 eps.)/United States Of Tara ep. 3-12, The Vampire Diaries ep. 16-22.

I have to watch all of season 6 of The Hills + two eps. of Republic Of Doyle....not incl. movies etc.

Loads to get through!, but i should imagine i'll have it all watched before the fall season kicks off in September :-)
