Roy would be great on boards.ie: "Where's your source?!"

In fairness, he's spot on. The players need to shoulder the blame.

He's right on this occassion in fairness to him.
There's always that edgyness with him though, he could start a riot in an empty house never mind a argument.

    Glazers Out!

Forgot to mention that I wasn't aware that Roy was holding his silence to begin with.

    Roy for England manager imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

He's spot on, but nobody in England will believe it when they have rags like The Sun and the likes of Andy Gray demanding an end to foreign coaches and the likes of Butcher, Shearer, Beckham to be given a chance.

"Bring back the passion with a proper geezer!"

I agree, Roy called it like it was. England are simply not a team of 11 world class players and blaming the manager or this "fatigue" (that only they seem to be suffering from) is rubbish.

Love the way he cut that sky sports interviewer down to size though, some of the crap on that channel is unbearable (e.g. interview with Pedro Mendes over the phone earlier and asking him if he thinks the goal standing would have changed the game for England.....ehhh).

haha he started to get really hot under the collar when 2002 was brought up! He's got a point the players do have to take some blame but i dont think you can excuse capello so easy either. i think it was a mixture of both, bad tactics/formation that mightnt have suited players and then big players not stepping up.

I mean Capello was the one to play Gerrard on the left cant exactly be the players fault

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

So Capello is a world class manager and shouldn't take any of the blame and then he lists off all the players Capello picked and goes on about how they've nearly all had poor or average seasons?

WP Roy, most definitely words of wisdom. :pac:

That reporter was lucky to get out of there alive for casually talking about Saipan.

Best analysis of England's World Cup I have heard.

Roy Keane doing World Cup punditry would be brilliant.

It would probably end in tears, but it would be wonderful while it lasted.

I dont like Roy much, but he is effing spot on here.

    Keano-Giles-Dunphy

    Great formation for Euro 2012.
Had to move Gilesy out of position to try and keep the peace between Keano and Dunphy.:P

Especially if he spoke his mind on Ireland, might not be so popular then

Who gives a ****e what the manager of an underachieving second tier side has to say?

Roy just sent Geoff Shreeves down in a ball of flames
" ..but when you had the problem w-with the Republic of Ireland in 2002,"
" ....lets get our facts right before we sack on into that again,"

    lampard had a good season.

As a Chelsea fan, I should have no love for Roy Keane. But I do. He was probably the best Irish footballer of my generation and it is only with regret that I look back on the 2002 World Cup, wondering what might have been if some b******s who called him self the Ir*sh M*nager back then had not sent him home.

Roy Keane is outspoken and has his moments, but the man rarely speaks an un-truth. Most of what he says is 100% correct and he rightfully takes no effing prisoners (unless he's going to torture them a bit first).

He is the only person on television so far that I've seen that has told it like it is re: England.

    He didn't mention Lampard.

Johnson, Barry, Terry, Gerrard, Heskey, Upson, SWP, Carrick, Crouch all had average seasons, many played well below par.

Defoe faded off as the season progressed. James is suspect. Green is an average keeper.

Lampard, Rooney, Milner and Hart were the only stand out players this year, for me.

People can kick up a fuss over how Roy is calling it, but he's 100% right anybody arguing otherwise is deluded.

Spot on, he's one of the few people in football who isint too busy brown noseing to give an honest opinion. Speaking of which Big Sam's been awful quiet...

he sure doesnt, roy nearly cut ashley cole some slack by saying he was just back from injury in fairness. but he didnt mention lampard at tall. lamps had another great season.

Pretty balanced analysis from Keane tbh

I liked the way he handled the Saipan comparison.

Pretty rich him saying that "players get away with murder" though, he did an interview on MUTV slating his teammates that was shelved, destroyed his working relationship with Alex Ferguson and had his contract terminated soon after. Some might point out that he didnt get away with anything but I reckon he thought he had carte blanche to say and do what he liked because of his years of service to the club.

    Love it

Excellent! Sky Sports didn't like that. Love the way the presenter said "he's brilliant, isn't he?" in a david brent condesending way, as if Keane comments were nonsense.

Love hearing him give his opinion on things football related. And at the end of the day, if someone points a camera / writing pad in his face and asks him a question he is well within his rights to provide an answer.

Hate him, but the man for once speaks a bit of sense here. Pretty much bang on with everything he said in that interview.

He was spot on also with regards the reaction to the Thierry handball incident and to the journo who let his phone ring at the press conference.

Nice to see him make a few good points that aren't underpinned by a disgusting sense of pettiness for once!

Not really, you'd have to be the most naive person on the planet not to see what his true motivations for that outburst were.

Quick thinking by ssn to cut out before he really let rip into the team :pac:

Attacking your ex teammates for not defending something is fine.

There is something extremely perverse about taking sympathy with Henry though and lambasting your ex team mates after a performance like that in Paris.

If Henry had headed it in or something then fine but to argue along the lines of "well if you let the ball bounce you can hardly complain if you get cheated" is pretty pathetic for moi.

The other thing is you really couldn't help but feel he was enjoying the fact that we didn't manage to get there, not without almighty Roy at the heart of things. That may not be because of grudges with the players (now that Quinn etc are gone) but defo with the FAI.
