Just watching ITV there during the Brazil v Chile game and the commentator (Clive Tyldesley I think) said just before half time that the manager was going to "throw a Paddy" when he got his team in!

Maybe I'm naive but I have never heard this expression before! Thoughts?

My girlfriend says it all the time. She's from Manchester. I never heard it until I met her. It's means to throw a tantrum. The "paddy" refers to padded cell for lunatics.

and how about the other 5 million+ irish living & working in the uk are they brit stooges as well:rolleyes:

I wasn't suggesting that. There were over 112,000 UK nationals living in Ireland according to the last census so there is a fairly large proportion of the population that originate from Britain living here.

Would you call them Irish stooges?
