Barry was telling lies...as usual...there won't be an online registration...at least not in time for this competition.

If you would like to enter this competition please drop Barry an email with your details barry@informedperformance.com

    Hey Barry,
pretty easy to setup the online registration, with some online software. Could set it up in a day . (thats without a payment method)! let me know.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

After some busy-Barry related delays, online application will be up and running tonight. I'll post here when it's done.

    THANKS BOY!!!!

    Hi all,

registration for the event is now available online http://informedperformance.com/barry/2010/07/informed-performance-mini-leagues-entry-form/

I'm already recieving entries to my email so I'd ask if you've mailed me to re-register using the online entry form. It looks like the usual divisions will fill first and once again I'd like to remind everyone that each division is capped at 10 entries, so once we reach that level in each division we will stop taking entries. A place is only confirmed once you have paid for your entry. In other words if you enter today and don't pay until next week, someone who registers and pays tomorrow will leapfrog you.

I'm also happy to confirm that this will be the first tournament on this island to use official BJJ terms and hand signals :)

    COMBATE!!!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Entries all coming on now and would you believe it, they're ALL advanced so far! I'm looking forward to those divisions already.

Can't make this one unfortunately, it's a great atmosphere and the round robin format will guarantee you a few scraps. Get down to this if you're around.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

    Hi all,

Some of the divisions are close to filling. This is a quick reminder that once a division is full, entry to that division will be closed!

So don't wait until the last minute, get your entry in now!!!

    Barry

Hi all. I'm going to post up a competitor list later today. We've recieved a few blank entries so I want people to ensure they're in if they've entered.

Also I need to remind everyone that this is a PRE-PAY tournament. If you're not in and paid by next Thursday, your entry will be cancelled and YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

You forget what country your are in mate? ;)

Hopefully a lot of NG have entered, have been badgering them sufficiently. I wont make it to this one as Im away, but going on the last one I cant recommend it highly enough. There is a shortage of competitions in this country especially well run ones so hope you get the support needed to break even Barry.

Hi all. I'm going to post up a competitor list later today.

Oh barry, you and your empty words :D

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

I have dissappointed you Mark. I am sorry :pac:

Unfortunately I can't make the entry document public as I had planned because the addresses, dates fo birth etc. are going public too and obviously I don't want to do that. Give me 20 mins here and let me see what I can do.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Full competitor list so far below. Good turnout so far with 45 entrants in and the usual last week rush still to come :) However there are a couple of entries with some information (division or weight) missing. If those people could get on to me with the missing info that would be great. Also if you check your entry and ensure you're in the right division now instead of on the morning that would be helpful too.

I would also like to remind everyone that if your payment for the tournament has not been recieved by close of business on Friday August 6th then your entry will be deleted and cancelled. No excuses, no exceptions.

Barry due to me being an idiot and relying on youtube for mechanical advice I am no longer able to compete this saturday. Instead I have to work and figure out a way of paying for the new gear box:(

Raging, I really enjoyed the last one:(

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

    Folks,

We've had a few people enquiring about paying on the day. If you are competing and want to pay on the day, then the entry fee will be €30

Pre-pay remains €20, please make sure you're entered early. Payment must be recieved by close of business (6pm) on Friday 6th August.

hey barry, just a few questions , sorry if youve already answered alot of em!

weight: id be either in UHW or SHW , if i fail to make weight for SHW and i put it down, do i get bumped up or DQd?

timing: just wondering on the whole timing of the event, obviously your not going to have an exact time as it will vary depending on attendance, but in the beginners class at the heavier end of the scale, would i expect to be finished early or later than most?

    cheers in advance.

edit: just looked through the list and noticed no one else is beginner at my weight, i have no problems bumping up to intermediate or advanced for a few fights if necessary.

Sorry just saw your pm but I'll reply here so everyone gets the info.

    1. Just make weight
    2. If you don't make weight we won't DQ but you'll be fighting bigger guys
    3. The event will run with smaller divisions done first. Obviously I can't tell you which ones they will be until Saturday but usually novice -76 and -82 will be the biggies and all HW divisions are the smallest.

    EVENT SCHEDULE:

10am- competitors arrive. Weigh in and check in
    10.30am- Rules meeting, divisions posted
    11am- SHARP. Competition starts.

We will put the divisions up on the wall at about 11 to give everyone an opportunity to size up the opposition. This should also give people an opportunity to guage when their tee off time will be. We can't provide precise kick off times for each division unfortunately.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Just a quick note regarding teenage entries.

You are welcome, with your coach's permission, to enter any division once you are 17 and over. I am NOT holding a teenage division this weekend though I may do a seperate one at a later date.

    Regards,

    Barry

just a quick 'fair play' for running this....very little reward for a LOT of effort and risk...but essential to bring on the grappling ability of our players....bravo!

Well considering 50% of people don't want to pre-pay, another 50% don't know the rules (coaches I mean!) and email you every 5 minutes, another 50% of people don't enter until the very last minute and another 50% will arrive on the day overweight...

so basically 200% of people won't make me happy tomorrow. I haven't had my coffee so please don't take any of this personally!

    Folks, tomorrow:

    PLEASE ARRIVE AT 10am
    PLEASE BE ON WEIGHT
    PLEASE KNOW THE RULES- www.ibjjf.org (whitebelt=novice, bluebelt=intermediate, purplebelt=advanced)

There will be a short meeting at 10.30am. This is to explain the competition format and round robin system. It is NOT to go through the finer points of what constitutes twisting knee pressure, what a neck crank is or what you can't slam out of. This is your sport and you should know the basics. If there's some nuance you don't understand then grab a referee and I'm sure they'll go through it with you.

See you all in the morning.

Saw this after the last reply. Thanks but I'm not 100% sure I'll run another. We had a great reaction to the february one and everyone wanted to know when the next one was. But people have mailed me pissing and moaning about the prepay system and there's only so many mails on "can I footlock?" I can put up with. I want to run them, I really do, but Dave doesn't do it anymore for the above reasons and I can see why. I'm trying to remain positive but the cynicism is starting to creep in!!!

Man, Alvaro was dead right- the only sport in the world where people compete with no idea of the rules!

Also ladies and gents, I'm a little short on referees/timekeepers/scorekeepers, so anyone willing to help in that capacity would recieve my gratitude.

Yeah its pretty poor form that people want you to run these competitions but wont prepay. I hope this isnt your last one and i hope the day goes well.

Best of Luck with this event Barry. Should have a couple from our club this morning to compete and help out.

    From http://twitter.com/BJJdotie
Tom King is IP advanced absolute champion, Clive Staunton takes second place and Artur Piotrowski in 3rd.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Just back from cleaning up. Here's the results but first some thank you stuff:

    To all the competitors
To Andy, Michael, Amanda, Tom, Clive Ruairi, Barry and Colin for all the officiating
To the lad who pulled out because the venue was too cold- best laugh of the day
To whoever made this cake I'm eating; it's savage good

We had 50 competitors all in all, I hope you all had a good day and gained some valuable experience. I had the pleasure of refereeing a stacked advanced division. The O'Bric, Staunton, King, Potrowski battles were great to watch and I think the crowd enjoyed them too. Highlights for me were Michael Devlin's impossible escapes, and Artur Potrowski Vs. Clive Staunton.

Have to commend Barry and the guys for today, it was a great compitition and it was ran very well. It was our first comp since we opened. The standard was very high from the advanced which was great to watch with some tough matches down to the novice. I was very happy to help out with the officiating and I'll gladly send the lads to the next one and help out again. Looking forward to the next one. This was also our first gold medal too so I'm more happy about that!!!!! Thanks again

A big thanks to Barry and everyone else who helped run this and all the lads who were in my division. Friendliest bunch of lads you'll ever meet( even the lad who got put to sleep didnt mind too much!:D)

It was good to see all the advanced lads fight first and not at the end of the day when everyones legged it. Some of those matches were great and deserved a good size crowd. I think tom king may be a jiu jitsu cyborg sent from the future to win everything on this fair isle. class act.

    medals aint to bad either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭Performance Martial Arts

Yeah the lad who got put asleep!! Would have to be the match that I reffed, he was only out for a couple of seconds and went on and fought again to take second place too. Great division!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,549 ✭✭✭✭cowzerp

With the rumble in rush next week and lots of my available lads on that we could not participate today, also with me running the Dublin clan wars weigh in today!

but i hope it went well and also hope that Barry gets the respect he deserves for running this and hope he does it again in future, as you know barry its going to be annoying and stressfull each time but this and similar competitions are so important to the BJJ and submission world and also to the MMA people too..

Please keep them going and what i would say is we'll support where possible and anyone who did not should try to in future..

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.
