How to become a gym instructor?

I've been giving it some thought for a while now about what career route I would want to go down and was trying to think what I would enjoy doing and Im really liking the idea of gym instructor.
I mean (from what I gather) they stand around, talk to people show them a few exercises, how to use machines, keep the place clean etc the only downside I could see is the odd early morning? I love going to the gym and would easily hang out there all day just talking and helping people...but is there more to this job than I think or what is the downside?
Is their any course someone could recommend to get into this career?I was looking at ncef?
    Thanks

Learn how to quarter squat in a smith machine and memorize every ab crunch variation done off a swiss ball. These two factors seem to be the yardstick by which all gym instructors are measured against..
