Look at the history of the entry - there's 50-60 edits at least from today as people try to spread word of the Fez. Here's one bit from an older entry:

Update: Wiki have locked editing on the page for a few days (there was over 100 updates today). This is clearly discrimination against the Doctor's fashion choices. Will we really let silence fall on this issue? Ban Wiki!

It's random.

Unlike fezes. Fezes are not random. If fezes are indeed anything, they are cool.

In this respect, fezes may be said to be similar to bow ties.

"Facial Hair and Hats" is more alliterative I would have thought. Especially if you wear the hats on your face.
