Apples! and blood sugars

    Hi,

I noticed to my horror the other day when reading the side of the apple packaging, that one apple is the equivalent of 17% of the daily recommended sugar! I don't even particularly like them :o

Is it very much different for your blood sugar levels to be eating a natural food such as an apple, with 17% of the daily sugar than something else like say chocolate (forgetting the fat aspect of chocolate)? Or is there a difference because the sugar comes from a fruit? Does the body treat the sugar from an apple differently somehow?

Also, was looking for some suggestions to replace my apple snacks with - I presume veggies are better?

    Thanks

I'd stick with the apples! :)

They may contain "sugar" but it's not like eating sweets, afaik the sugar in an apple is released at a much slower rate so won't have a detrimental effect on blood sugar levels.

Yes, veg is better, and so are berries, but apples are one of the better fruits. Don't worry too much about it.
