Muscle memory gains after 4months off?

I'm starting back at the gym on Monday after a 4month break (due to exams and injury)

During the past 4 months I've had terrible diet and no exercise.

I have lost 1.25 stone since I stopped training and going to the gym and have increased bodyfat (unsure of actual increase but guesstimate around 6-7% increase = now 20%).

Once I am in a routine I can stick to it religiously, so from now I'm going back to eating well and training hard.

I will take it easy for the first week or two but then I will get back into some heavy lifts- squats, deadlifts etc.

Has anyone experienced muscle memory gains before?
If so at what rate were they putting back on the lost muscle?

Before I was putting on around 2lbs of lean mass a month.
I hope that I don't have to put in 8-9 months work to get back where I was 4 months ago!

If i was you i wouldnt worry about something like that as a huge range of factors can influence how fast people put back on muscle
    Just train.

Tbh I'm just looking for a bit of motivation from people who have experienced it or know of it to help me have a positive attitude and give me the belief that its not going to take as long to get back to where I once was.

not more to it than getting off this internet and hitting the gym ASAP. I mean, we can't tell you how long it's going to take you, specifically. If you were told that it would take as long, would you not do it? If you were told told it wouldn't take as long, would you not train as hard? My advice would be to just go train your ass off, try to get back on the horse and with a bit of luck you'll be stronger than you ever were, maybe with a bit of patience.

No amount of motivation or belief will make you gain muscle faster unless you are willing to use that motivation to push yourself harder and longer in the gym.

I missed five months with a shoulder problem. Get back to it OP. No-one can say how you're training will go.
