    Hi,
What's good for cleaning components such as real derailler? I've never cleaned it before so there is a lot of old muck and hardened grease/oil. Water by itself doesn't seem to be having much of an effect.
    Thanks.

Start with warm water and soap. If that doesn't work, you can try some biodegradable degreaser.

Also search around, there are multiple old threads about cleaning :)

i find halfords degreaser to be quite good and cheap, about a tenner for a litre or so. Forty for 5.

That and a toothbrush (if you haven't got a cleaning kit) and an old cloth should do the trick. Spray on from an old windowline bottle etc , leave fora few mins, wipe off and spay with water (best if you have a pressure hose or bottle), and your away. Oh and don't forget to lube up after.;)

Also works for your chain if you don't want to take it off.

you might have to repeat a few time if its been a while.
    Good luck.
