Problems from Calves excercises

I did far too many calf raises at the weekend (on a seated leg press machine, mostly, with about 80-100kg). I was doing a lot of HIIT running/sprinting in the same workouts, too.

The long and short of it is my calves are naturally now in bits. Worst DOMS ever just subsiding tonight, I think. All of this is fine, normal etc.

The only lingering problem is I have pretty much constant numbness (and a little swelling, I think) in upper right hand side of my left ankle. It feels like something is trapped or swollen down there and I'm getting the odd tiny spark of pain, too, if I try moving it hard.

There also appears to be some broken veins and a very slight bluish discolouration happening on that right side of my ankle, too.

My ankles felt fine in the day or more following the workouts but with the DOMS since then I've barely been able to extend my legs/heels for 2 full days and I dunno if that's actually what's affected my ankle...

Is this something I should be worried about? Will it go away soon? Happen again? Anyone know why it's happening now?

    Thanks a lot.

Take some ibuprofen and follow the RICE protocol for a few days. If no improvement go to a physio.
foam rolling will do the job quite well

even just get a rolling pin on them for a few mins but gently if they are really bad

This makes me nervous - I'm really sorry OP but this goes a little above and beyond the advice that can be given here, best to go see a medical professional.

    Best of luck.

    Hi All

This thread is on shakey ground here.

The Op's first post highlights two issues DOMS and an ankle problem.

While there is no problem IMHO advising someone to stretch and foam roll to loosen up tight/stiff muscles. Advising someone to take medication (even over the counter stuff) is straying into "giving medical advice" which is not allowed on this or most other forums on boards.

Sorry OP, but I am going to close this thread.

For your DOMS issue, stretching and foam rolling will help. For future reference I have found soaking my legs in ice baths after heavy sessions lessens the DOMS effect.

For your ankle issue the only advise any body on here can and should give is to have it checked out by a qualified professional.

    Best Regards,

    M
