improvising dip bars...

i've moved back to my old gym for the summer after being in the mardyke and i've nothing to do dips on. I'd just started getting into them recently and they were going well and helping my bench and I want to keep them up but there's nothing to do dips on in my old rowing club weights room. Any suggestions for what i can do to improv some equipment? there's no power cage or squat rack....

2 chairs may not be stable enough, might be a couple spare tables around tho.

There's noone in my "gym" to annoy, it's st. michael's rowing club i train in, where i used to row. i use it when the rowers aren't using it!

On a serious note, €60 may not be exactly cheap, but the rings Mickk sells are really good quality. Picked up a set myself last week to use in the garage.

Rubadub has some home made rings. He said how he made them in a post on here somewhere. Worth searching for it.

I have not actually made any, but might well be later on today. I have given loads of tips before though.

I have said before there is no need to make a full ring. It is far more likely to kink and be weaker if trying to do a full ring like those.

You get straps here, I have the medium duty ones and have had over 100kg on a single one with no trouble, they have loads of uses. (e.g. as stirrups for assisted chins)

Dips on rings are a very different animal, much harder than normal dips, esp. starting out. I like doing heavy negative only dips on rings though. My favourite dip stations is using railings which come together at 90 degrees. If you look around your area you might find some, I have about 10 "dip stations" in a 4mile radius around my house. I have even used bicycle lockup bars for wide dips. Like these but closer together

Some supermarkets have rails close together where trolleys go, though you would look like a nutter using them during the day.

Are there any public places with parallel bars. I know in Dublin they some "strength stations" with a dip station along Clontarf coast and they have parallel bars and pull up bars in the new Father Collins Park in Donaghmede. Might have something similar in Limerick.

Cheers for that link. Made a pair of these today. They feel really solid, just need some rope and I'll give em a try. Not too much work involved either.

I would get those straps I linked, they are cheap but good. It is difficult to tie 2 ropes exactly the same length, and with the rings you will want to change the height for different exercises, also makes them easy to take off.
