Are there certain foods that are more difficult to digest?

Do some foods cause constipation - does it vary with the person?

What causes gas - is it certain foods again?

    Thanks

    Your Milage May Vary.

Some people react to certain foods in different ways.

Some people find that meat makes them constipated, others find they have no trouble with meat, but fart if they take whey. Some people can't live without wholegrains, others find it makes them bloated and miserable.

As a general rule, the more processed the food is, the more likely it is to cause problems. Very few people have a problem with meat or fish, but a lot have with wheat and wheat products.

Eileen is right, what may be fine for you to digest may be difficult for me.

This article, although about heartburn is a really great guide on how to heal your digestive system.

I have IBS so have implemented some strategies that the author outlines with great success (special thumbs up for glutamine and Now foods digestive enzymes). I now have to really deviate from healthy eating for few days in order to trigger an attack, whereas before just some cabbage would set me off.

I'm linking a lot to the healthy skeptic lately but the guy is just so thorough and up to date on the latest research, saves me writing out a big long post.:)

its different for different people, I dont get gas from lentils or chickpeas they kill other people. Myself and my father are perfect examples, we both suffer quite badly from digestive problems if he eats spicey foods he will be ill for days, if I eat some toast or a pizza likewise. I used to think it was dairy for me but I know think its wheat, I have stopped eating bread pretty much and am still eating cheese and yogurt and I am fine. Wheat and dairy are quite common to cause problems. The best solution to constipation is loads of veg but again in some people that can cause gas. The best thing to do is keep a diary of foods and symptoms, very boring but you will be able to identify what is bothering you.
