So what's everyone's opinion on LC2010 so far?

I've done English (honours) thought it was good, Lear question was a little dodgy but everything else was grand. Loved the compositions on paper one! Maths (honours) paper one was a little too tough for my liking but I enjoyed paper 2, so *hopefully* I'll get a C3. Irish (honours) I enjoyed it, the topics for the essays weren't as good as other years and I found the questions on 20 Bliain ag Fas tough going..! Business (honours) I was very surprised with this, loved the ABQ, the short questions were fine but I didn't really like the questions that were on section 1 of the long qs! French (honours) the comprehensions weren't too bad.. and the diary etc., I really enjoyed :) the aural was okay I've seen harder.. But the one on the archeoligical find, well I messed that one up i think!

Also, I've applied for teaching in MIC (gaeltacht applicants), according to CAO the applicants for teaching have dropped by, 5% this year.. Does anyone have any idea of what the points may be like?

Good luck to everyone :) xx

I think that the papers have been aimed to stop predicting stronger than ever this year.. No pictures on paper 1 for the essay? No Boland?

Im not finished yet but I didnt do aswell as I hoped in other exams.

I am hoping for Primary Teaching in MIC aswell :) Arts is second! Hope I get arts atleast!!

it is going very well and i am so glad i ignored all the predictions, i have been exceedingly lucky because everything i have studied has come up.
only have had math irish english french not finished until the 25th.
hoping for 550 points to do physics in the uk
best of luck to all :)

They were definitely harder than I thought they would be, I wasn't expecting them to be easy but some of them were pretty bad. I studied, I just think I was unlucky in a lot of them >.< Ah well can't change them now, one more to go and I'm finished so I'll study some more and hope it goes well.

I've been lucky so far thank God :) Didn't really listen to the predicitions, which I'm glad of! Yeah I noticed that too actually, and the General Vision WITH Literary Genre broke the pattern, although fairly obvious that it was going to happen :) Two more left, can't wait :)

Hoping for straightforward teaching with Music studies and English Lit. :) and then there's list one to six of other options, before I moved onto UL :L

    Think I'll be repeating tbh.

I've been disappointed with pretty much every exam so far. I mean I did alright, but nowhere near as well as I could do. Ah well. I'll probably still get the course I want(although I haven't decided exactly what that is yet :/)

i've only got irish english and maths done, but i've been happy enough...made some serious gambles with irish p2 (h) - just learned uirchill, faoiseamh, jack, gealt, fiche bliain, clare, one triail answer and stair...talk about lucky :D although that triail question was disgusting imo!

as for points, i think the really general courses like arts etc will soar, with the more specified ones staying around the same...

    what are the specified ones?

English (Honours) - I could have easily gotten a B1 or A2, but I screwed up my paper 1 timing and did an essay waaay below my average. Not happy. Paper 2 was lovely though. WH question was pretty decent, comparitive was as good as I've ever done, and Rich <3

Maths (Honours) - Paper 1 slaughtered me.. I think I scraped my 120/300 just barely.. Paper 2 seemed alot better though... I definatly passed overall but I don't know if I got my C3..

Irish (Pass) - I dropped on the day.. so I found it very simple...

French (Honours) - Written paper was good, considering I'm not great at comprehensions. My section two questions were pretty good too I think. Got my phrases and my subjunctive in without any issues =) Aural was absolutely awful. I couldn't hear the tape properly.. Only 20% though... Also my Oral was amazing. We had the most lovely examiner ever :)

I caculated my points and I got 340.
I do 4 highers 2 ordinary and LVCP.

If I pass maths and English. I might go to NCI. I wanna study finance and accounting.

In two weeks time the marking schrme is out on examinations.ie so I'd know how I've done.

All going pretty well for me so far (I think). English one and two, higher, went quite well for me. Lear was a bit tough but I think I did alright.
Geography higher then was fine. Made a balls of the soils but I noticed what I did wrong and I think I fixed it. Everything else on it went quite well.
Maths 1, pass, wasn't bad. I was expecting an A but I think it was tougher than other years so I think I went down a bit in that. Was very happy with paper two though, so I may have scraped the A. Maybe not though. Hopefully won't need it for points.
Irish 1, pass, was grand. Made the same mistake as everyone for the letter though. Paper II then was as big a joke as ever. Not using it for points anyway and I'm certain I passed.

All in all I'm happy so far. Biology, German and Chemistry to go, all higher. Should be grand, I hope.

Did LCVP back in May too and my project was good so all going well I'll get 430-450. On track for it at the moment anyway.

Awh! I have Biology & Music left, thank God for the weeks break is all I'm going to say! I did LCVP too, so with that hopefully it'll bring me up :D All going well I'll get 440ish but we'll see August 19th I guess:cool:

Want 540 for Trinity, so far it's ok.

English, you can never tell, but I wrote some good answers I feel. Irish, I am not even counting it for points, so feck it. Maths, I thought I was going for an A1 after paper one, but paper 2 let me down, so maybe a B1 at least, still happy though.

French went pretty well threw in the subjonctive in all of my written pieces, some plus que parfait too, which was nice. Aural was alright. Maybe 50 something out of 80.

I want an A1 in Biology, which I feel I can get, same in Economics. Maybe an A2 or A1 in Accounting if it is nice, and hopefully a B2/B1 in App Maths, if it is nice as well.

    All hope so far.

i know :( but apparently ( and this was from an applied maths teacher ) due to the lack of a's last year they will improve it / nicce marking scheme. i just really need a A2/B1 because i will fail chemistry :P. what q's you doing?

English (H) = Grand. :p Good, steady Paper I. Nice Paper II, everything I studied came up. Hoping for an A, but will probably get a high B.

Maths (O) = A lot better than I thought, considering I failed the mock! :D All those grinds paid off. Will probably get a middle-ish C.

Irish (O) = Grand, wasn't too bad. Had the examiner from hell for the oral, but made up for it in the written papers. Lovely poetry questions! Hoping for a middle-ish C.

Business (H) = DREADFUL. Ran out of time, rushed everything. If I pass, I'll be happy, but I'm kind of hoping the gods will have mercy on me and give me more than a D3. :) Gotta get points!

French (H) = Paper was nice enough, got a bit fiddly on the second comprehension. Written bits were good, paid extra attention to my grammar. Aural was rubbish, though! The questions were okay, but getting the answers was tricky. :(

And tomorrow, I have Biology (used to be H, dropping to O) and Art History (H). Hoping to get into Creative Digital Media in ITT, so I need at least 300 points!

Good luck to all of you!

I am doing question 1,3,4,5,10 and then a decision between 7 and 8, whichever looks nicer, most likely 7 though. But question 8 part a is always a proof, so that is 20 marks in the bag straight away :)

Never got the hang of relative veolocity, but I got unbelievable notes from my teacher in the last month, them alone could get me a B :D

em, well say...speech and language therapy...you can't see a course like that going up much cos if someone is returning to college after working for years or whatev they won't want something so specific...

the same goes for dentistry or physio or zoology or something...know what i mean? it's just my opinion, but it kinda makes sense...?

English (honours) paper 1 I thought was really good .Paper2 was ok 2 I was hoping 4 Boland but I had Kavanagh prepared 2.....so it was fine but the King Lear question was a little tricky....

Maths (honours) I didn't like paper 1 at all....I think paper 2 was pretty good I got most it done anyway,,,

Irish (honours) Paper 1 was fine...Paper 2 I didnt like the An triail question it was sickening...erm had a little done on An Chéad Dráma but kinda blanked a bit in the exam .....

French(honours) I thought it was pretty good too 2nd comp was a bit tricky..

I have biology (honours) and art history (honours) tomorrow and our art teacher only gave us notes like 2days ago and told us to do it ourselves..not impressed with him at all....
    I do LCVP too....
I'm hoping to get into St.Pats for primary teaching so *fingers crossed*

Why only 6? I'm going to do 1,3,4,5,7,8,9,10, and maybe 2 if I have time.

    3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 are my best ones though.

I need 4 As and a B, including As in Maths and App Maths, for an accelerated MMath in Scotland, so far I think I've got 2, maybe 3, in Maths, History and maybe English. 4 Exams to go though!

Time is a problem for myself, only subject where it is a problem as well. And we never did hydro statics, we decided not to, and concentrate on the big 8(1,2,3,4,5,7,8,10)

We tried SHM but none of us liked it. I have never gotten above a C1 in App Maths, but my teacher loves giving us mocks from the 80s, and in the Mock I thought I did better then I did, but got a C2, hoping to get it up a few though. That mock was a pain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭EuropeanSon

I find, in maths particularily, that if I don't have the answer in 15 minutes I won't have it in 40. Hydro is lovely, IMO the easiest question on the paper! SHM is disgusting though. So is relative velocity usually.

English went fairly well.. Can never tell with paper 1 though, really happy with my question A and B, but I chose the same short story as most of the country :L Normally I do well in them but all depends on my examiner :/
Delighted with paper 2 though; thought the Lear qs were lovely, Kavanagh question we did in class came up and comparative was always easy so happy days, and I managed to relate the unseen poem to something else on the course so hopefully that'll look well :L
Thought maths (h) paper 1 was fine, managed to do the 8 qs, lucky I had time coz I was doing q3 as my 6th one and that ended up being fairly tricky :P think I only dropped like 20 marks in.. Paper 2 went considerably worse though :/ messed up the end of circle and vectors, and realised after I handed up my script that I put a factorial in at the end of one of the probabilities by mistake >.< hopefully will get a b1 though
Pass Irish was a joke :L would have gotten both papers done in the time given for one.. Probz shoulda stuck with the honours ha
Have Biology, German, Physics and Chemistry to go til freedom so hopefully they'll go well..

As for points, I'd say the business and arts courses will shoot up, but the sciences and languages and all should stay fairly low.. Still haven't decided what I want to do though :L

I was tempted to go for Nottingham but it was too much hassle, England have some awesome colleges, and they aren't suffering as much of a recession as us.

I'm going to Scotland. Much cheaper living cost than here, cheaper accommodation, a better degree and no fees.

In what I've done so far
    Geography-A1-Hopefully
English-A2/B1-Delighted best English tests I've ever done

French-C1/B3-was dreading this but it was fine in the end

    Still to come
Accounting-Best subject should be an A1
