Not just in Swords. They are in Artane and Kinsealy too.

    http://dublinmeatcompany.com/ lists the special also.

They don't deliver outside Dublin ... pity they don't state this on their website as I wasted a lot of time ordering and paying, only to end up with the order cancelled. Be warned!

Says "Dublin Area" on the link to the "online shop" section, but I guess it's not particularly obvious if you just go via the left menu and start adding things to the cart.

Not terribly clear - proces look greate though and I will definitely try them if in Dublin. Seriously though why restrict it to Dublin - there must be logistics companies who could deliver chilled meats outside Dublin - after all with the motorway it's only about 2.5 hours to Cork?

I buy from dublin meat company regularly and their meat is always top notch at good prices.
I refuse to go anywhere else since I discovered them. Usually go to Artane but a mate uses swords and says its great out there too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭bazwaldo

I signed up to text alerts from the dublin meat company last week and just got one saying that their weekly special is "2lb of sausages AND 2lb of rashers. BOTH for only €5". Deal starts tomorrow.

    Now thats a great deal!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,663 ✭✭✭Nolimits

I cant find any way of ordering it online, I've opened it in 3 different browsers, can someone tell me if I'm missing somethin obvious?

I hope you froze some of it ?!?!?

Out of curiosity, what would one get for €50?

I have 5 mouths to feed here and the local butcher is a bit pricey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭topper_harley2

For BBQ we got the following for €46 from Courtneys:

    20 burgers,
    160 cocktail sausages
    1 kg sausages
    1 kg chicken gouions
    5 ex-large chicken fillets

    €6 of which was delivery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭Johnny_Fontane

a load of specials from the Dublin Meat company this week

    4 fillet steaks for €15
    2 chickens for €4
Full leg of lamb for €16
    2lb Rashers & 2lb Sausages for €5

I got the rashers and sausages deal the last time - its a hell of alot of meat for a fiver. If you think of it, a normal pack of galtee rashers is about €3 and thats 227g, so you're basically getting 4 packs of normal rashers and 32 sausages for a fiver.

I'm not connected but wonder how the hell they can make money on that - must be a loss leader, hence the bargain alert.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭bazwaldo

I go there every week or two and find their specials great. Their sausages are lovely, very little fat in them and just the right spice and salt. I'll be dropping by for the €5 special for sure.

Their "oyster" hams as they are known are great value too. Two for a tenner and they are massive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭WalterMitty

Do they have any free range corn fed chickens?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭Johnny_Fontane

current special is another loss leader

    2 chickens
    6 burgers
    2lb sausages

    €10

Website mentions 100% irish beef, bacon, lamb, pork. But nothing about Irish chicken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭él statutorio

Unlikely to be Irish chicken at that price.

I'd guess it's Dutch or possibly asian.

Nothing wrong with either of those mind you.

According to the weekly text I got from them, it says its Irish chicken. Just a very small one :p.

Great deal tbh and their sausages are very good.

EDIT - clicking on the FB link shows the details "This weeks Dublin Meat Co Special Offer is.. 2 Fresh Irish Chickens + 6 Homemade Beef Burgers + 2lb Sausages …ALL for ONLY €10 .. and ALL 100% Irish. Try support local businesses who offer value like this !!!"

    Well, I wouldn't say that.

Good deal, if Irish chicken. V hard to produce chickens at those prices.

took a pic of the chicken earlier....it comes in a twin pack and its from cavan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

Superb value - 2 x 1.8 kg chickens plus burgers and sausages. Good deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭bazwaldo

Wow, I thought the chickens would be 1.3kg or less. Thats amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,056 ✭✭✭wait4me

Are you sure that you get two 1,800 grm chickens or is it a twin pack of chickens which weigh 1800 grms? The pic shows packaging that says twin pack weighing 1800 grm.

Just weighed them. 2.3Kg including styrofoam.

1.8 each was too good to be true. Still well worth a tenner though.

Sorry, but you have to be more detailed, Large pack? weight please.
2 chickens? size please and when you say x 2 is that 2 lots of what you have said which would be a bargain.

It's important to know the weight, at least.

Twin packs of chicken, that were part of an offer last month, looked small. Can't remember the weight now, though.

The last time I got the two chickens they were 2.3kg together. The mince pack I get from them is 2lb and is very good quality. I assume thats the size in the special as its the only size they sell AFAIK.

The price is good in comparison to Centra and Spar convenience stores but if you go to bigger supermarkets it's about average.
The quality of the meat might be better, I've never bought from them so don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 374 ✭✭Murta

Does the packaging on the chicken/meat indicate who/where the suppliers are. I'm sort of particular about where exactly my meat has come from. I see that they have the board bia logo on their website. So I guess the meat/chicken is defo Ireland. But I do like to know what place or farmer that supplied the produce.

I HAVE TO BE MORE DETAILED! I don't work for them so sorry if I can't give you exact specifics!!! I just thought it was great value, two special offers this week so I bought 3 of each and filled the freezer! I'd rather buy from these then big foreign owned supermarkets (although I doubt anyone could beat that price) And all their meat is Irish sourced.

If everyone tried to shop local maybe we might get on the road to recovery quicker!

I have to say you are so wrong there, all their chicken fillets are from holland, and makes me wonder about their labeling. because if all their chicken fillets are from Holland (verified by their staff), how come the ones with marinades, stuffing, kebabs etc all say IRISH on the labels.
Also none of their products have weights on the labels, which i think is unlawfull but don't quote me.. maybe that's why is's now "A large mince" as it was always 2lbs of mince previously.
So unless you work for them, You cannot say "all their meat is Irish"
I also read on another thread while back, January or february that their turkey breast was foreign too last year, and some excuse about the weather not being able to source Irish. So they can get it from another country with bad weather and not from a supplier down the road, come on!!!

I appreciate the fact that you were posting a BA to share with others but yes more details are needed, Common sense.
A big bag of mince to you might not be big to me. If you go back in the thread questions of the size of the chickens had come up before, no need to loose the cool.

That explains why they can sale it so cheap when sourcing overseas. The prepared stuff can have irish on the label depending on how they phase it. Irish made does not mean the meat is irish, it simply means that say the marinating was done here. Highly misleading but a lot of products do this. Personally, I prefer to pay more for meat & chicken that has been produced here. Darn it, we should be self-sufficient in these products.

I asked them a few months back about the source of their chicken fillets and they said that they were from Holland as said above but everything other than fillets are from an Irish source. Their beef, pork, lamb and whole chicken products are all Irish bred as far as I know so I would would rather support these guys and generally their products are good quality and the specials can be great.

Almost all chicken fillets sold individually in butchers and supermarkets are from a non Irish source. You would need to ask in each store to know where.

Just got this from them : Co-op Poultry, Cootehill, Co Cavan www.cootehillfarms.ie - we're in the process of setting up a new website with an online shop, all our products will have a link to the supplier of that product so everyone can see exactly where we source from!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Clementine2010

I was there today and everything I bought has the weight on the packaging as has all the stuff I bought this week, I would just never think to look to be honest. Plus they have signs on the wall saying where each meat comes from (supplier and county etc) and its all Irish suppliers, I doubt they'd get away with lying (surely theres laws against that!!!). Bought another special today as it was good value and the Chickens say that Coothills are the supplier and the steak says Irish sourced with batch no etc.

Although I wouldn't particularly take note of weights I actively try to buy Irish given the current condition of our country! Anyway I'm trying to stay out of supermarkets and shop from local businesses, hoping if everyone made little changes this little country might get a little better!

There was a lengthy discussion about this on the radio a few months back. It came down to the following using Salmon as an example

Smoked Irish Salmon = Irish Salmon, smoked anywhere.
Irish Smoked Salmon = Salmon from anywhere, smoked in Ireland.

I know there has been moved to fix it, especially with "Irish Chickens" simply being foreign ones but packaged in Ireland. Personally I much prefer somewhere like the Swords place being honest about it than having another get around it on a technicality.

I just went on to the Dublin Meat Companys' poultry suppliers website Cootehill Farms and it says they hatch and rear their own chickens!

Next time I go into DMC I'll find out where their other products come from but as I said theres a sign on the wall with a list of suppliers, all Irish but can't remember who they are.

I just went on to the Dublin Meat Companys' poultry suppliers website Cootehill Farms and it says they hatch and rear their own chickens! Surely they can't get them in from Holland.

Ask them to show the box labels, that's the only real proof of where the products come from. The labels printed on their products are controlled by them and can say anything they want.

Supermarkets that buy from factories in Ireland, do not have control over the labeling like this as this is done at factory level. Where a product is produced in the store, their head office controls what goes on the label and therefore ruling out the store confusing any customers with the origin of the meat.

Marinated meat to qualify to change the country of origin. It must be s substantial change to the original form... ie: cooked chicken goujons.

here is the article i mentioned in my last post.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056129352

Check it out turkey from poland and labelled IRISH.

Hi.. I am one of the brothers who own Dublin Meat Company and was told by a customer this morning of a discussion on boards.ie re our products. I would like to clarify that where possible everything we sell is 100% Irish and from Irish suppliers. The only thing at present not Irish is our 10 packs of chicken fillets and certain marinaded fillets. This is because it is impossible to source Irish chicken fillets that can be sold close to the same price as we sell these for. We charge €10 for 10 Dutch Chicken Fillets which are Class A, Feile Bia Approved and are the fillets which are sold in 99% of butchers in Ireland. We do however sell irish chicken fillet which are slightly larger than above (200g v 120g) but are 4 for €10 !! All our products are labelled with the weight, origin and weight per KG where necessary.
We would love to be able to sell Irish chicken fillets instead of these but most Irish chicken producers can get more money abroad for their product but jump on the bandwagon where possible.
    Regarding our specials this week.

Large pack of Round Steak Mince (800g or just under 2lbs) + 2 Fresh Irish Chickens (min weight 1.8kg) + 6 Homemade Beefburgers + 1kg Lasagne + 800g Sausages ALL FOR ONLY €20.

2 Irish Striploin Steaks + 2 Salmon Fillets ONLY €10.

I hope this clarifys some queries and I would have to disagree with one of the comments that you would get the same value in some butchers or supermarkets. This value is unbeatable as we are selling at very very close to cost to generate business in our shops. The quality of our products are top notch and we are breaking our n*ts to keep 3 shops open and employ 15 people.

Looking forward to seeing you all buying next sweeks Special which is 4 Large Irish Fillet Steak for €15 !!!

    BeeeKeeper,

Great to hear from you, it is nice to see Irish companies really trying to give the customer a great value for money experience. Providing for 15 employees in such a very tight margin sector, I feel, is an achievement in itself and I would like to wish you all the best for the future.

Regarding your offers I personally have not seen anything close to your prices mentioned above, in my local butchers and from reading the feedback of your customers in the posts on this thread it seems that your products are of top quality.

I have not shopped with you before but will definitely do so now. Looking forward to treating the family to some steak next week, its been a while since this has been on the menu as like most people are these days the budget does not stretch that far.

Again, good luck with your business and keep the offers coming....

    All the best,
    Freebee23
(P.S. I am in no way affiliated with this company. I just like getting bargains like the rest of us boardsies)

So can you clarify all that is not?

Ah here, give the man a break. Here is an indigenous Irish SME trying to compete with the prices in your Tesco/Dunnes/SQ/SV and you're nitpicking about exactly where all the produce comes from?

I think he's more than adequately answered it tbh, and without trying to put too fine a point on it - take the bargain or leave it.
