Linux is as secure as ever Which doesn't mean that idiots can't foul-it-up.

What does this have to do with linux?
People installed software which they thought was fine. It wasn't and contained a trojan. The developers of this IRC app are at fault for not signing the files in the first place and not securing their own server. This can happen with any operating system.
AppArmour or SELinux would help mitigate the effects of this vector of attack (maybe).

Have to agree it was a dodgie trojan.

If anything Linux has gotten more secure over the years. SeLinux really helps up the bar in a compromise.

Things have moved on since using BSD jails on linux and stackguard(now pax).

There's a tradeoff... The ability to check code with the want to do so. People become complacent and trusting of opensource. Agree with Trivarion though nothing to do with linux. Could easily have happened on any os
