    14. Aisake Ó hAilpín (Na Piarsaigh)
    15. Patrick Horgan (Glen Rovers)

    Injuries: None

Star Player: We'll say Aisake, considering his star-turn versus Tipp and Limerick's problems at full-back.

    tipp_indo_327362t.jpg

Watch Out For: Pa Cronin making his return from long-term injury - recently starred for Bishopstown in Senior Championship and certain to get at least twenty minutes here.

Cork's Best Chance Of Winning: Don't be silly.

    Probable Limerick Team:

    Tadgh Flynn,
Kieran O’Rourke, David Breen, Shane O’Neill,
Lorcan O’Dwyer, Bryan O’Sullivan (capt.), Paul Browne,

Star Player: None really, but Nicky Quaid seems handy enough.

    limerick-v-cork.jpg

Watch Out For: Wing-forward David Breen starting full-back on Aisake.

Limerick's Best Chance of Winning: Mass outbreak of the black plague in Cork's Hurling community.

    Previous Five Meetings:
    2006 Cork 0-19 Limerick 0-18 (All-Ireland QF)
    2004 Cork 1-18 Limerick 2-12 (Munster SF)
    2002 Cork 1-16 Limerick 1-15 (All-Ireland qualifier)
    2001 Limerick 1-16 Cork 1-15 (Munster 1st round)
    2000 Cork 2-17 Limerick 1-11 (Munster SF)

Prediction: Cork by 10-15 points, Limerick to play manfully for a half.

Should be a handy one for the rebels. Cork by 12-15 points, thats if we dont play poorly. I hate a team having the overwhelming favourites tag though. It is often a dangerous position to be in. However, there is something seriously wrong with Limerick GAA if that current team causes any threat to this Cork team.

Stuck in the 5 previous meetings for you there Orizio. Couldn't find the score to the 2001 game though.

For what it's worth though, the final score will be Cork 4-18 Limerick 0-10 :)

    Cork 1-15 Limerick 1-16

Barry Foley still lives off his performance that day.

*On a separate note, could Orizio please rename this thread for what it is.....Cork v Limerick B. Thank you. Next Sunday will be a sad day for the Munster Championship and hurling in general.

Cant remember the score. I remember watching the hurling programme "Final Words, Hurling Championship 04" a few years ago. It was reviewing Corks AI success. If anyone can dig it out from somewhere, The final score of the Cork-Limerick game of 2001 was in it. It was the part where Brian Corcoran was interviewed where he had decided to give up county hurling. Someone else may have the score of that game.

I am expecting an interesting and competitive game for maybe 30 - 40 mins at best. Cork should pull away slowly from limerick who will of course give it their all but will fall well short. If cork bang in a few early goals I fear for limerick. I hope Denis does as JBM did when we played Kerry in the championship - told the players to only go for points. If memory serves me, Browne ( blackrock) got the piss taken out of him for kicking the only goal - he said he was actually trying to kick it over the bar and fúcked up!!!

edit: at least we have one team that are capable of beating Kerry !!

Yes we will lose but i hope they give it their all that's all i and every other man/woman/child in Limerick can ask for from these lads.Fear it could be near enough 20 points if Cork turn up which i would expect from a serious outfit. anyways good luck lads do your best..and remember "things can only get better".

While Cork should win this game with relative ease they would not want to be going out onto the field with a laid back attitude thinking they only have to show up to beat Limerick. This current Limerick team scored 3-21 recently in beating Wexford in a challenge game so they would not want to be treated lightly. I reckon Cork by 8-10 points and Limerick to put up a fierce battle.

    I'm expecting 15 + win for Cork.
Can't deny that Limerick hurling is in a shambles and Cork are on a high.
It'd be nice to see the game be competitive for the first half at least.
But most of these lads have no previous senior championship experience and it'll tell.
But they might surprise us. Won't win tbf but y'never know.
And if Aisake runs for goal (like he did against Tipp many times) and beats our back line easily, Limerick will be crucified.

We'll stick close to them for 20 minutes and concede a few goals after half time.

Someone will be sent off as usual and then the floodgates will open and queue the few Cork supporters shouting ole for 20 mins and they will crucify Limerick dropping a few bombs in on Aisake.

Cork by 23 points. A bit like the Tipp game in Croker last year.

As good a time as any to get a trip down to Cork out of the way:D

Cork to win by 12-16 points

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

I'll be there anyway, as a club mate is playing for the Cork Intermediates beforehand - make sure all you Limerick and Cork feckers cheer on the little Castlemartyr wing-forward! :pac:

Best case scenario; Limerick keep it to 15 points or under.

Worst case scenario; I'm too afraid to even consider how bad this could be.

I just hope Cork treat it as the practice match that it is..

This is the team that played against Waterford in last years Munster Intermediate hurling championship.

    LIMERICK — B Hennessy; A Hennessy, B Kelliher, G O’Leary; D Moloney, S O’Neill, P O’Brien; N Quaid, A Brennan; P Harty, P O’Reilly, T O’Brien; T Ryan, D O’Neill, T Quaid. Subs: L O’Dwyer for P O’Brien (h/t), M Keane for Ryan (h/t), E O’Leary for O’Reilly (h/t), P Cremin for Moloney (36), J Quane for T Quaid (54).

    Many of these players are now our seniors; the final score in last years game;
    Waterford 5-15, Limerick 0-7.

So many of our current panel got hammered by Waterford's Intermediate team this time last year by 23 points...
The first competitive game they played this year was a 31 point humiliation by Dublin...

I am absolutely dreading this game :(

Complete underdogs with nothing expected of them.

Lets hope they can pull something together and do themselves proud on the day.

Cant see them beating cork but no one likes watching a team getting hammered when their in difficult times.

These guys have stepped up to the plate and deserve alot of respect for doing so considering the average of estimates in here alone is 15-20 point loss.

Wonder what the handicap will be come match day?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,654 ✭✭✭jordainius

Pessimistic and all as my previous post was I think I should point out that Limerick actually beat Wexford recently in a challenge match- they scored 3-21 from what I've been told. No idea what kind of a team Wexford put out but 3-21 is still a pretty decent scoreline all the same.

Probably Cork -12 I'd say? Just a guess.

As promising as that sounds, challenge games really don't mean alot. Galway footballers recently thrashed Armagh in a challenge game. Would we thrash them in a championship game? I very much doubt it.

It's hard to see anything other than a fairly easy Cork win in this one. Even with a full strength team Limerick would be up against it, but with what effectively amounts to a second string team they really have no chance at all being realistic about it. What's happening there is a shame and sadly there are no winners in a situation like that. The big losers are the Limerick supporters who will have to watch their team quite possibly get an absolute hiding from an in-form Cork. I guessed at a 12 ponts handicap but the margin is likely to be higher than that.

Yeah I know but the first challenge game played this year was a three point loss to an understrength Carlow! I wouldn't make any judgements of beating Wexford until I saw what sort of a team they put out but either way positives are few and far between right now so I'll take whatever I can get!:D

Couldn't agree more- I'd go further though, the people I really feel sorry are our current panel of players, I hope for their sake its not a hammering because its not fair on them; they know they're not our best 30 but they've kept going. I felt awful for them after the Dublin defeat, it would be horrible if that happened again.

How on earth can Limerick have a intermediate team line out for them on sunday. They must be young players

Wexford played 2 different starting lineups in each half I think

I hope this doesn't sound to patronising but I hope those young Limerick lads give a good showing of themselves.

I don't think it is the slightesst bit patronising! From a championship perspective they are indeed that... young lads! I hope, and believe, they put in a fine performance, just as long as they lose of course;)

Handicap is -16 on paddypower.com. It's a shame this is happening and I won't feel comfortable at all watching it. I remember watching Limerick hurlers in the mid 90s, to see what has happened to them since sincerly saddens me.
I hope it isn't a dark day for hurling but I think it will be. Cork by 20+, they have a job to do too remember, it's not their fault Limerick hurling is in crisis and it always does a forward's confidence the world of good when he racks up a big tally, irrespective of the opposition.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,972 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

I hope Limerick don't go out with an over anxious feeling and do something stupid and get a man sent off. They will of course be eager to show they won't be a pushover but could you imagine going down to 14 early in the game. I wouldn't wish it on them.

Cork of all teams will surely sympathise with what Limerick are going through, but at the same time they have their own agenda and once the ball is thrown in on Sunday it will be all down to the cold hard business of winning a Munster Championship game. No room for sentiment there. Like most neutrals I would hope that Limerick can be competitive but it's hard to see how they can be. The last thing hurling needs now is a traditional power like Limerick going to the wall, as Offaly have also slipped way down the ranks.

Is Justin secure in his job, no matter what kind of hammering they get?

i do not think that cork will hammer them out the gate. Firstly when they are big favourite like they are usually not a team to fire in 4 or 5 goals unlike Kilkenny. I think they will beat them by 9 or 10 points. Also if I was Denis Walsh i would be telling my players to push on. At the end of the day it is not up to Cork to be looking after Limericks pride. If they score 3-10 in the first half they should drive on and try and score 3-10 in the second half.

A cracking intermediate game between Cork and Limerick with Cork edging it 1-24 to 3-17 after extra time.

Cork don't really look up for it only Horgan inside who is causing havoc.

Our half forward line is getting cleaned out but keeping Cork to 1-9 in 29 mins of hurling isn't the worst. I pray that they are fit enough to keep going for the whole second half. I can see Cork bringing on a few subs and running up a score in the second half. O'Sullivan is gettin cleaned out. Mulcahy has got a few nice scores

Ye unfortunate. But if you swing it like that in that direction you do intend to hit the player. Not intentionally in the head though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,654 ✭✭✭jordainius

Cork not really pushing themselves, their response to every Limerick score has been to go up the other end and score themselves within a minute.

Sending off was deserved- don't think he meant to connect with anyone but he swung his hurley out in frustration, regardless of an unquestionable lack of intent, it was a very silly and potentially dangerous thing to do.

    Overall, poor game in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,100 ✭✭✭Browney7

Yeah I'd agree with you there Jordainius. Cork don't seem to have to work for their scores half as much.

Awful game alright and the wides have cost Limerick dearly and the peno miss aswell. At least they are showing a bit of pride in the jersey. Thats all you can ask for really given the predicament we are in
