Is Sky not getting the new series? That's a shame, Comedy Central will probably show it in the middle of a Two And a Half Men marathon :(

Im sure Sky will get it. Comedy Central UK is separate from the US Comedy Central.

I am officially very excited, hopefully it'll be better than the generally lacklustre DVD stories: and here's the first 90 seconds of the first episode:

I actually thought the films were really good. They got better as they went along imo. As a huge fan of Futurama, this is fantastic news for me. Something about it has always appealed to my inner nerd.

Ehh, it ended, and had a great ending. Bringing it back is just going to dilute it Simpsons style.

I thought they were quite poor - the last one picked things up a little, but the first two were fairly "meh". The third was just way off the mark, a boring and pointless mickey-take of the Lord of the Rings.

I enjoyed the first film, I loved all the time travel element to it. But the other 3 were terrible.

First episode is horrendous! Second episode is a great deal better but nothing exceptional.

Ugh, a "friend" told me that the first 2 episodes was a bit meh really, with the odd touch of magic but otherwise quite laboured. Filled under "r" for "relaunch" as so much of the first 2 episodes are just to get the whole shebang going again.

I watched them last night, this is what seems to be going on There were a few funny parts in it but over all it was lacking, hopefully it will only get better

pretty meh, imo. nice to see it back, but maybe we were hoping for something uber-fantastic. it probably wouldn't have lived up to it in any case.

First episode wasn't great, but second was much better. You can't beat a Zapp episode!

    Best line by Zapp:
"Once again, we finally meet" :D

I love Futuramas nerdy humor. Looking forward to seeing the new series even if most of the movies sucked.

I think they just need to give Zapp Brannigan more airtime!

I didn't think the first 2 eps were brilliant, but it's so fantastic having Futurama back! Comedy Central need to pick up Life & Times of Tim as well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

    3rd episode is pretty good.

Its a nice mix of humour poking at both the internet and the iphone, though it does suffer a bit of newsimpsonitus in that they didnt really seem to finish the plot and just ended it on a gag and in a strange role reversal a good chunk of it can have a *south Park did it* sticker over it (esp all the internet video stuff) but I liked the eyephone gags. Even if having a little holographic app store being projected from my eye is somewhat appealling

But I laughed and thats whats important.

I am a big Futurama fan, but I honestly felt it ended at the right time at the end of the 4th series. It was nice to hear of the movies, but only 1 and 4 of those were decent, 2 was awful, and 3 was ok.

Again, I was glad that there was a new series, but having watches the first 2 episodes last night, I was a bit dissapointed, which leads me back to my opening line above.

That being said, it will not stop me wathcing the rest of the series. I just hope it gets better.

i'm sure you'll enjoy 603 much more. There's some laugh out loud moments, which is kinda rare with Futurama

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

haven't seen 603 yet, but 601 was horrendous, and 602 was only ok.

the jokes now seem a bit... smuttier, for want of a better word (amy's orgy line in particular) and not for the better either..

    serious lack of zoidberg too..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

i thought it was a shíte ending to season 4. it was a crap episode to end it all on. the movies were meh.
the first episode was always going to be difficult - they have to deal with coming back after being cancelled.

3rd episode was really good, just takes the piss out of the iPhone. some really good moments in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

the fourth episode was pretty good, fairly close to a classic episode. some cracking gags in it too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Ya 4th ep was another enjoyable episode, making me think what went wrong with episodes 1&2 of the new season! My fears have been allayed by eps 3 & 4 :)

My only gripe is that Fry did the same thing a few seasons ago ("I dated a Robot"/Lucy-Liu bot) and everyone else in PlanEx gave out stink to him, even to the point of making him watch anti-robosexual promos and hounding him about it....But everyone's fighting the cause in this ep! They owe Fry an apology!

I'll mention that Homer has had some homophobic tendencies ("Homer's Phobia" with John Walters) but in a later season, when confronted with other homosexuals, he thinks to himself whether he should try to be more open-minded, and is. Great to see continuity (and progression/personal growth) there.

didn't think this episode was as strong as the third episode. 3rd episode can just be applied to the world today with social networking and apple products. 4th episode was good though.

i think Futurama has more value when you re-watch it. it doesn't seem as good til you go back and watch it again. must watch the 4th episode again to see if i like it any better :)

and the 4th cant be applied to the world today????

I really liked the 4th up until the end. It suffered the same cop out ending that plagues most simpson episodes these days but it was doing really really well up until then.
honestly it should have been kiff bender was debating against would have made for a more rounded ending

Got to say, I do not like "Bender" episodes. Mostly due to the fact that I just do not like Bender. Though episode 4 was quite funny when he was not involved.

Wow! I've never heard that from a Futurama fan before! It's like saying "I hate Homer but I love The Simpsons"!

Its Fry all the way for me. Bender has his moments, but I just don't like the whole "me, Bender" character.

Zoidberg's my favourite; he's perfect as a side character. Yeah, Fry's great

Just watched 6x05; man, it's so great to have Futurama back. It's so good-natured and easy to watch.

Not much of a fan of Bender either. Fry, Zoidberg and Zapp are the best characters.

Well five episodes in and I'm totally enjoying it. The quality has been a bit variable - I thought the second episode was the weakest by far, and Thursdays was OK - but overall I believe the writers are back to something resembling their best (certainly when compared against the feature-length episodes). It's worth pointing out that during the show's run on Fox, there were some real stinkers & no season was consistently top-drawer.

Some of the humour is a bit unsubtle, such as the 3rd episode taking a blunt broadside at Apple, but I thought it was still very funny. I read people criticising it for being too topical, which I just don't get at all.

I don't know about others, but you definitely notice the greater creative freedom Comedy Central allow, the jokes have been quite on the nose & pretty smutty at times. Hehehehe ... V-Giny.

As for the Bender-hate, he's a bit one-note, and wouldn't be my favourite character (that would be Zoidberg!), but I still think he's a great comedy character.

It's great - new Futurama every week :D

    Hi Animatronio!

I genuinely thought the "Duh Vinci Code" was not only the best episode of the season, but one of the best futurama episodes. It made me laugh out loud several times (PREPARE FOR PLEASENTRIES! You gotta love Morbo). I've watched it twice now, and it was even better the second time!

    Bye Animatronio!

6th episode wasn't that good imo. no good lines in it, i think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭overexcitedaj

I thought the 6th episode had the most heart to it, even if the ending seemed a bit obvious. It had some great laughs too. Im so glad to see this programme back to some very deceant quality after a shaky first 2 episodes

606 didn't match up to the Duh Vinci Code, but it was still pretty good. not enough Fry though, which is never a good thing

    Another Bender heavy episode.

This new series is grade A sh*te Im afraid. A few smiles here and there, other than that its been brutal :(

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Ah I thought the latest was amusing; not hilarious by any stretch, but I would categorise it as one of the more "sentimental" episodes you get to flesh out characters.

I totally disagree that this season has been sh*te; as I said in a previous post, there were a number of bland, unfunny stinkers in the shows original run, so for me this new series has been much better written than in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 886 ✭✭✭randomchild

Been a fairly mediocre season, but the last two epsiodes have been good. The latest episode really demonstrates the shows flexibility to shift from comedy to some very touching material (although the seymour episode and the sting did it much better).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 886 ✭✭✭randomchild

Alright this episode really salvaged the season for me, perfect balance of comedy and emotion that really paid off. Best futurama since season 4. Thats 3 decent episodes in a row so good portents for the rest of them after that rocky start!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Ya, that was a good one. Easily my favourite of the new season.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

A good episode and clearly, it was meant to be the "tugging the heartstrings" one. Even though we got a romantic / happy ending, it was quite sad too because
the Leela in the original universe never got to be with Fry for long before growing old
It was also gratifying to see what the exact story was with Fry / Leela since the new series started - up until this point, it was all a bit unclear where their relationship stood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

It was a good episode although i much prefer the comedy to the sappy romantic ones.
I was a bit annoyed at Fry for being tardy to a date with Leela, especially on such an important date (her birthday)....cool that time is cyclical, although it also means that it's a fatalist point of view, in that everything happens pretty much exactly the same over and over.

Overall i'm enjoying the new season; it's so great to have futurama back ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

    quality episode.

    I clicked the
ciculer time element very early on and am happy that they tied the old leela and new leela together with a line

sort of episodes that are missing from the seth mcfarlane stable and simpsons of late.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

I loved the professor's line near the end.. "I'll have to bring her back around"..

really good episode, this and the duh vinici code have been the standouts so far this season
