If you can maintain, then that's the way to go. It's not difficult to maintain until you get to very low bodyfat figures. It's not only difficult to stay below 5% for long, it's not healthy. So those guys do bulk and cut.

For most people, bulking is just an excuse to get fat. You've got to be training like a demon or the muscle gain is unlikely to be worth the fat gain.

I hear this all the time but I've been around 5% and lower over the past 2 years and I'm in perfect health.

According to what scale/bf calculator. I can put my mms into 3 different ones and get 3 different measurements.

5% is just about what a competitive bodybuilder steps onto stage with, and bodybuilders onstage are closer to death than health. I doubt you're 5%, I'd say what's more likely is that you have a poor measurement system. The leanest guy I know walks around at about 7% and he's a professional athlete. If he got any leaner he'd have health difficulties.

LOL just remembering we had a lad walk into us telling us that he was 4% about a month ago, we did his measurements and he was 10%.

All of my measurements were skinfold done by Transform using a calipers. I understand it's not a totally accurate means of measuring bodyfat but I more than trust Transform to give me a close enough estimate considering his experience.

Okay. I suppose as long as the measurement system doesn't change (ie. you always get it done by the same guy using the same system) then it doesn't really matter. Unless you train twice per day and have the diet of a monk I doubt you're 5% though. It's possible of course and I'm not calling you a liar, just saying that very few people would walk around at that level of bodyfat for a concerted period of time. You're right on the cusp of the amount of fat required for living. I've no doubt you're lean, that wouldn't be in question regardless of the system used.

To give you an idea of the variation, I'm 9% on one scale but 12% on another using the very same measurements.
