TNA to "Change on Every Level"

I know TNA have these kind of announcements about three times a year but what could they possibly do to change everything.

    From Dixie's Twitter:
It's 6:30 am. Been up for hours. So excited I can't sleep. TNA's about to change forever. Can't wait to share it w/you, my staff, the talent
Just got off phone w/Spike prez Kevin Kay. He is all in and agrees this will change TNA on every level.

    All from PW Insider:
The word we are getting is that the big change that Dixie Carter is tweeting on her Twitter account is not something related to Slammiversary but something that is much bigger for the company as a whole.

There has been a lot of talk that the company has reached out to people to enhance and/or overhaul the creative end of the company and we can confirm that the two most prominent names discussed internally are Kevin Sullivan and Paul Heyman.

As we have mentioned previously on the site, Heyman has been on the TNA radar for a while now. The story we have gotten is that for Heyman to come in, he would need complete control of the creatiove process (or at least as much as a booker can have in 2010). We can also confirm that they have spoken with Sullivan as well.

We will have more on this story as soon as we can confirm it.
After our report earlier tonight concerning TNA's surprise, we heard from a number of people in the company stating that whatever they have planned it's bigger than a change in the creative process. As always, we will continue to follow this story moving forward.
I reached out to TNA President Dixie Carter for clarification on the "TNA changes" comment that we've written about tonight. When asked about whether it would involve a creative change as we theorized earlier in the night, Carter responded none of the theories making the rounds were correct and the change was something on a much larger, grander scale. It was described to me as "true change."

While there is rampant discussion going on within the company about the situation (and we've heard a number of theories), the reality is no one in the company knows what Carter has up her sleeve as she hasn't disclosed it to anyone. Carter is holding all her cards extremely close to the vest, so no one knows what the true nature of what her tease is.

While Carter made it clear this situation is not something specifically designed for Slammiversary (although she did tease a surprise for that PPV, which apparently is a different matter), all of this certainly does add a lot of intrigue and mystique to this Sunday's PPV.

We'll have full coverage of TNA Slammiversary all this weekend.

Of all the people on a short list on enhance the company, one of them is Kevin Sullivan? Have I missed something here? That just seems mental. On the other hand, I'd love to see Heyman back but I fear he may be a bit past it. I'd love to be proved wrong on that one though.

Anyway, TNA do these type of big announcements a fair bit. More often than not, they turn out to be massive letdowns. Still, I'm a sucker for these kind of announcements.

Yep, TNA spout this crap all the time 'change, change, we're changing'. No you're not. The oul lads are still hogging the limelight, still booking them over the young guys, still giving away too much free **** on TV, still doing 10 storylines per impact so nothing can sink in.

I just try to accept TNA for what it is, and accept that their show will never actually be good on a consistent basis.

Unless Heyman can actually be given full reign to actually _run_ TNA; in charge of everything (on screen, not business) I've no reason to hope for any change. Sure Hogan and Bischoff are still here.

    It's probably some new ex-fed guy :(

My favourite was the "major announcement" of a former world champion debuting. Cue the groans when Al Snow waddled down the ramp.

Maybe they're moving back to The Asylum in Nashville.

The Asylum is being closed for good at the end of the month. I've actually thought the iMPACT!'s since they've moved back to Thursday's and cut the show from 11 segments to 9 have been much better paced and structured.

The question is though - who is there left to bring in? Rock? Goldberg? Both will never happen. They could be taking iMPACT! on the road.

Nothing will change no matter what they do.

Even if they got John Cena they'd book him into "just another name" in 6 months :(

Maybe Danielson is jumping to TNA ha. Maybe they are gonna move out of Orlando and try make some money for the recordings of Impact

Maybe spike tv bought the company?

Looking at TNA's past form, it'll either be a return to the six sided ring and/or the debut of Honky Tonk Man

It has to be the Ultimate Warrior, a Warrior/Hogan program will really turn things around

They're in contract negotiations with André the Giant.

I think TNA will probably go on the road and out of the iMPACT Zone. Or else a name change even? I don't know. As long as they get out of the iMPACT Zone sometime I'll be happy.

Probably something stupid like going live on Thursdays which would add nothing to ratings and just be a waste of money.

I'm getting really tired of these major announcements from TNA. The last one that I actually remember being good was when they brought Angle in. Almost everyone said Angle would not be the surprise and everyone believed it.

Yesterday morning Dixie Carter teased via Twitter that she was up for hours and couldn't sleep she was so excited about a huge change coming in TNA.

She said: "It's 6:30 a.m. Been up for hours. So excited I can't sleep. TNA's about to change forever. Can't wait to share it w/you, my staff, the talent."

She later Tweeted: "Just got off phone w/Spike prez Kevin Kay. He is all in and agrees this will change TNA on every level."

Here's what I've heard since then, as reported yesterday and earlier today first at the PWTorch VIP website in my Wade Keller Hotline.

-It's important to make clear this big news is different than the "nice surprise" they're planning to unveil on Sunday night's Slammiversary PPV. Dixie did not bill this as a "surprise" that would be revealed on Sunday, although it's logical that people would assume they were the same.

-This big news that will apparently "change TNA forever" is not the type of surprise that would be unveiled all at once, but rather would become apparent over a span of time.

-It's not related to a name-change, a change in the PPV format or schedule, Spike TV specials being added, Jim Ross being hired, or Paul Heyman being hired.

-In fact, I'm told it's bigger than a booking change.

-It's also not: a change to the ring, a change in Impact's location, Eric Bischoff being promoted to a full time office role, a wrestlers
' union, or new ownership or investors. These are possibilities that I have floated past an informed source in TNA all of which have been shot down.

Nobody actually said it was going to be announced at Slammiversary, that was just assumed by some people.

Perhaps Don West will be selling 3-d glasses 24/7 on TNA.com.

3-d tv was the educated guess of Bryan Alvarez.

Young,Styles,Burke,Abyss,Joe,Lethal,Beer Money,Terry,Neal,Williams,Wolfe have all recieved decent to great pushes in the past while......i dont think the older guys taking the limelight is that huge of a issue there anymore.

Would love to see Heyman in TNA, would be very intriging.....as for the supposed debut though maybe i've read some rumours of a ECW like invasion if lead by Foley.....would be interesting then again it could end up being Carlito or something....ha maybe sid

I'll agree that it's been better than say, during the MEM angle, but stuff like iMPACT finishing with Hogan getting to the bottom of "Why Sting Why", so Hardy/Wolfe is cut to under 5 minutes. Lockdown finishing with Hogan, Bischoff and Flair getting the job done......That and The Band being tag champs. It's more Flair scene-stealing, AJ dressing up in his Flair-halloween costume, same with Abyss; that kind of crap. Fighting over a WWE trinket.

New old guys in the money spots. They interject themselves in the main event feuds, detracting from the newer stars instead of adding. I'll reiterate that it's better than it was a year ago; but Sting, Hogan, Bischoff, Flair are in those money spots. Storylines revolve around them. I'm also very happy to see Anderson's, Pope's and Wolfe's pushes.

I think tonight's Slammiversary surprise will be Mickie James and/or Shelton Benjamin, and the bigger change will be either programming or location related. For example, introduction of a second weekly TV show, or Impact to go 3 hours, or leaving the Impact Zone.

I am thinking Flair will throw Styles out of his fraction hence a face turn for him and tbh he sucks as a heel imo

Aye, I like Styles as a face. He's not the worst heel ever though.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 15,827 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

Yea AJ could be a good heel but his run with Flair was crap but i think it will benefit Kaz to get decent on the mic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

No big announcement. The only thing worse than a bad big announcement (re : Al Snow) is none at all. They could've even mentioned what they're doing going forward and shown a little of it at the PPV. Way to pull another fast one, TNA. Credibility is low as it is!

Bringing in more ex-WWE stars won't change TNA on every level. But then again we shouldn't be fooled by/take any notice of these ivory dealers.

Getting Abyss to stop dressing up like Hogan would be nice :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 15,827 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

According to sources, the word from last night's PPV is that Dixie Carter has not told anyone what the surprise that will change the company is.

The latest theory, which has not been confirmed, is that TNA will be dropping PPV and instead do live specials on Spike TV. Again, this is NOT confirmed by any means.

Dixie Carter previously posted the following on her Twitter Just got off phone w/Spike prez Kevin Kay. He is all in and agrees this will change TNA on every level.

    Partial Source: Pwinsider.com

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

that would be fantastic news, would it be possible they'd do those specials outside the impact zone? Or at least dress it different?

It'd also be great if they didn't add a show, but rather had every 4th iMPACT being three hours.......

Yea would be great if they did them out of the Impact Zone. I think they are having a house show in NYC and it has sold pretty well for a house show think about 3000 (which is good for TNA) and they are thinking about holding a PPV there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

How much money would they lose (if any) if they don't have PPV's anymore and just have live specials?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

TNA don't release figures but it's thought that they lose money on almost every PPV. Live specials would cost Spike more money; TNA would see increased revenue. Win-win, really.

From reading on the net i think TNA need 20,000 buys to break even, but they routinely dabble ~10,000. They spike a few times with 30-40 but it wouldn't offset the majority losses. Slammiversary last year did 8,000 buys !!

(A small point, but TNA went to 12 PPVs/year immediately just so they could feel like they're just like the WWE)

Their PPV buy rates are pretty poor so I'd be shocked if they were making that much money on them. They don't care about them anyway so why keep them about.
