They've around 35 stores so thats only 10 pizzas per store. Chances of getting a pizza are sooo slim seeing as everyone knows of this offer and I'm sure plenty of people had their phones on speed dial tonight!
Staffs head are going to be wrecked if someone scores again the French, phones will be hopping for ages after!

I think you need to read this:

its all relative, put it this way if it would cost them lets say 1000 euro in pizza costs if Uruguay scored, they would be in this position

Uruguay score - 1000 euro
Uruguay don't score +/- 0 Euro


If they took a 330 euro bet on Uruguay scoring a goal at lets say 2/1 for example purposes they would be in this situation

Uruguay Score - 10000 euro (pizza cost) +660 (profit from bet) = -340
Uruguay Don't score - 330 euro (loss on the bet)

In the long term this would be of more advantage to Pizza hut as they have limited the exposure of their losses (hedged or eliminated all risk)

Depending on their risk apetite they could also hedge further as the game progressed to the extent that they wished for uruguay to score.

In reality there are further things to consider such as wheteher the goodwill formt he free pzzas > the publicity generated if they didnt score

please not if the odds were greater than 2/1 the loss on both sides would be very low.

Your right actually. And it makes even more sense if you think that 350 pizza's dont cost anywhere near €1000 for pizza hut. Id say over all cost they would be about €1 per pizza. The mark up is INSANE!!!

TBH they prob dont even need to bet as 350 is feck all to the Overall company. Remember its 350 pizzas for all 35 stores. Not each one!

Its interesting the degree to which companies effectively make bets like this to hedge against their risks, their is a financial type index of age expectancy where you can bet on the average life expectancy going up or down.

Life Assurance/Pension companies use these to bet on people living longer, that way if it happens the amount they have to pay out is reduced.

there are financial instruments like this for almost any kind of risk.
