    It has to be reported.
The advising examiner will decide what happens depending on what it says in the note.
Money taped in the exam booklet (I kid you not) is also reported.

Well, what kind of note? If it's a note like, 'hey, this is my e-mail, and if you get in contact with me, you'll be getting a cheque for passing me!', or a note like, 'I apologize for my atrocious hand-writing'?.

    say you wrote
" i studied boland " or " sorry for my terrible spelling and writing lol"

    ??

I included my first name in English paper 1, in the interview 50 years from now, theyll hardly cancel my paper for that!

Doubt it, they'd just laugh I'd say and do their job appropiately.

Normally in my handwriting my capital Gs look a bit like small Gs. In the German paper, where the nouns have to be capitalised, I would try to write a more obviously capital G, but would it be okay to write a little note saying "this is a capital G, this is a small g" just in case I forgot?!

That sort of thing is no problem, likewise the 'Have a nice summer!' ones you get occasionally, but 'I need a B3 for college' is not.

I don't think you're allowed to, I'm pretty sure they report it. And apparently they're pretty picky about writing in that margin on the right. I was tempted to write something on my disgust about no Boland, but thought, that would be childish and gay.:P

    And also,

I said my name was John Smith. Classic fake name can't go wrong :)

I REALLY would not recommend writing any notes! It all depends on who will be at the end of your note!

Oh, I did this too, except it was my last name and I used a fake first name. They'd hardly report this would they? I mean you had to use a name of some kind and how would they know whether or not it was fake?

Yes they have. Some people do very stupid things.

true, they'd never know! I could've just made up a name.

No, it would just be childish ... and pointless and a waste of time! :)

Well they wouldn't know your name, they'd probably just assume you made it up. No need to worry about that. Unless after you wrote ''(this is actually my real name, just so you know)''. And I'm sure you guys didn't:P So no need to worry.

Someone did this in the boys' school in town in the mock. The examiner kept the money, said nothing and gave them a bad mark!!

Haha my name for the letter was Jackie Chan, first name that came into my head. :D

yea and i heard tell of someones paper getting cancelled for writing "i'll pay you to pass me" in a jokey manner without actually giving money or contact info

those examiners, no sense of humor!

Imagine actually having that name :pac:

Sure it's in the official rules, a big rule about no offensive stuff, porn, money, cheques etc.

at the end of my home ec i ran outta time so i was scribbling dwn the ans to the last question.. in comparison the writing in the rest of my exam was neat so i simply apologised for the messy hand writing at the end.!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭WallyGUFC

Rule 75 page 12 of the "Candidate Information Booklet"

"Submission of material of a pornographic nature or any other offensive material or the inclusion of any cash/cheque in the script may result in the examination in all subjects being disallowed."

    Love it! lol.

about the names, I think they only cancel your paper if you clearly state that it is your name. If you write it at the end of a letter, there's no way of knowing if that is your real name or not. :)

I couldn't think of a name to write at the end of my letter so I wrote ''John Doe'' lol

I just wrote "A friend" at the end of my letter.

Question: because it was functional writing, did we have to write an address? I know that there'd be no point in writing an address in real life, but I did so anyway - just in case there were marks going. :p

Notes make no difference to me other than thinking how silly a student is to waste time writing them. I report anything personal or bribery straight away. Then it's up to the examiner over me to do what he likes.

they don't know what your name is... could be fake or not they'll never know your just an exam number to them. not writing your name means identfying yourself in a note to them type thing

My maths teacher said someone wrote a note on the exam once saying how stupid a question was and how they should check them before giving students such ridiculous questions.

I wrote a note in the mocks saying a ran out of time and they gave me back a note talking about time management :).

Harmless notes about the exam are fine I suppose, nothing personal. Like someone who said "Have a nice summer".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,044 ✭✭✭BigBenRoeth

I wrote a note yesterday in English saying "I'm going to answer poetry now and will do the comparative questions after that" just to avoid confusion :P

In Maths I always write little notes next to what I'm doing, to clarify. If I screw a question up and make a second attempt later on, I also stick a note pointing this out, so they know there is another attempt. Basically trying to make the examiner's life as easy as possible, and not get confused about my answers.

Other then that, I don't make notes at all. I'm far too paranoid about that kind of thing.

At the end of my unseen poetry i wrote sorry ran out of time only have 5 minutes to spare so i did out the slits t foruma, have a good summer, is that ok? :p

The only thing i've written is
    > Q8 next page because I skipped pages and just didn't want them to skip it. I'd say they ignore messages or notes that students leave unless it is either offensive or unethical (a bribe).

Haha that's hilarious. But if it only says cash/cheque, does that mean postal orders and/or credit cards are acceptable?

    That's harsh and un needed.

I always write a note saying ' hope you had a nice summer '

I skipped a page too and left a note sayin 'Q4 two pages ahead and Q3 page beforehand' lol

I left a note in English two...Like near the end of my King Lear Q *Sorry i ran out of time, it was a big rush!* :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭EuropeanSon

I left a note in Maths Paper 1. On Q8 (c), I did part (ii) before part (i) and I wrote a long note explaining this just so the examiner wasn't confused.

    Pretty much, in my experience.

Certainly, "I ran out of time! :(" or "the second half of this is at the back of the book" aren't a problem.

I feel so left out as I don't leave notes. I'm going to write a list in my Maths paper of all the things I plan to do in the summer*

    *Not really!
